CHAPTER 23
Shannon walked through the door of Just One More, fighting off a sense of déjà vu.
But this time Darcy was behind the bar while Tracy sat—glass of wine in front of her—with Jenna, Isaac and the three firefighters who had helped out this morning and were now off shift.
On his left, firefighter Cindy was smiling at Lucas with what looked like more than friendly interest.
The jealous monster growled again.
They were at Lucas’s table from the other night. But while the chair to his left was occupied, this time the chair to his right was empty. And this time, she wasn’t just going to walk away.
Lucas met her eyes and patted the chair beside him. The growling monster turned into a million little butterflies in her belly.
He stood up to pull her chair out for her, which brought them face to face. And because the bar was crowded, their bodies were just a little closer than she could ignore.
“Shannon…”
Wow. Those eyes. And that mouth. And this day, dammit. This day had sucked, and she knew only one surefire way to make it better.
So she grabbed him and kissed him with everything she had.
