My father once told me the story of how our old pack lost in a major war between two wolf packs. He told me how he found me within a hidden shelter, alone and crying. He wasn't sure who I was, but he did know he couldn't just leave me there. So he took me with him. Raised me as his own child.
Coming back to reality when my mates scent hits me powerfully. I look up from the table and see Alpha Jason at our table shaking my dad's hand. Holy moon goddess, the Alpha is my mate. Not one of his warriors as I thought. What do I do? Is he going to say something? Will he take me away from my family? Worse will he reject me?
I look into his eyes, his expression unreadable. He doesn't claim me here, he doesn't say anything to me. He smiles and bid our table a fair well. Mann, I don't know what to do. I stay at the table not even paying attention to what my family is discussing. Ashli my wolf, reminds me to calm down. She says, "Maria you are overthinking. I don't believe he is like the rumors potray him to be."
The rumors, Alpha Jason is described to be heartless. A young Alpha who took over his father's title at the age of 18 without his Luna present. At 18 years of age he was in hid first battle with one of the largest Wolf packs. The Red Pine Pack, was known for taking over smaller territories. Picking on vulnerable packs and stealing their land and other resources. Alpha Jason declared war within his first two months of leadership. Surprising not just The Red Pine Pack but many others. The war lasted 18 months. Losing almost a thousand warriors ourselves. We eventually won. Leaving Alpha Jason with the rumors of being a dangerous wolf.
As I am lost in my thoughts, I receive my first mind-link from him. My Mate, The Alpha saying, "it is okay to take your time. I will not rush you to be with me. I know it will change your life. It comes with many risk to be with an Alpha. You have my word that I won't make you do anything you are not ready for. Take your time and come to me when you want. I will be waiting."
I feel my cheeks turn red and I look up to find him. I meet his eyes filled with hope and wanting. Smiling toward him. I mouthed, "Thank you." Then I look towards my parents who seem not to notice anything has happened while talking to my brother about his classes.
