CHAPTER TWELVE JUDE Between you and I, the two of us checked on the kids approximately every five seconds last night. Parenting doesn’t stop when bad things happen. You don’t get breaks just because you need them. Kids are demanding like that. Also, I had no idea I could find another reason to love you more. But I did. This whole situation with my father has caught me off guard—it hit too close to home. I can deal with bad cops and dead bodies and most things that come my way. But whoever is sending these notes is getting more brazen, first by showing up at Rudy’s house, and second by interacting with our children.
