CHAPTER EIGHTEEN JUDE I’m up and out the door early. The sun is just coming over the horizon, and it feels like not only a new day, but also the chance for a fresh start. Speaking of starts, I’ve decided, on a whim, to take up running. You weren’t up when I left, but I wasn’t sure what else to do, and this whole running thing seemed the best idea I could come up with until it isn’t. I’m certainly not out of shape to begin with, but I wasn’t prepared for this. My feet hit the pavement, my head whirls, and I can hear blood thrumming in my ears. I keep going because what else can I do? I need to think, and I can’t think in that house, not around you. It feels absolutely ball-busting that I’ve let things get this far.
