I woke up and looked at my phone and jumped up out of bed realizing I had slept the day away. It was now 8 pm and I had slept through the rest of yesterday too. I cursed at myself and ran down the hallway and started toward the stairs. "Addie?" I turned around to see Sebastian tying a tie and standing outside his door. "Are you still going to the charity event?" he asked, looking at me like I was some strange creature. "Yes Bassy why do you ask?" I replied teasingly he grimaces at the name "ugh I wish you wouldn't call me that, but you should really fix your hair and get ready" I glared at him "And where do you think I'm going?" I said gesturing to the stairs he rolled his eyes still fighting with his tie.
I sighed and walked over to him and helped him fix the knot in his tie. "You should really ask for help with this and-" before I could finish my sentence, Sebastian cut me off "I'm perfectly fine, and you know you can get dressed here, right? I can have a dress sent here". He looked at me, trying to gauge my reaction. I finished tying his tie, then looked at him. "I have everything all ready at home but thanks Bassy, see ya", with that, I rushed down the stairs. When I made it to the door, I yelled behind me "you look handsome, by the way!"
I took my keys from the ignition and walked up to the house. Ronnie opened the door, "Hey, b***h, you're late". She was dressed to the nines in a beautiful red and black lavish off-the-shoulder floor-length ballgown. It hugged her waist and then bubbled out to the floor; she wore a beautifully intricate butterfly mask on her face. Her blonde hair was swept into a curly half-up, half-down style, and she looked stunning. “Hey yourself,” I commented, winking at her flirtatiously as she rolled her eyes at my reaction to her attire. “Ugh yeah yeah, laugh it up.” Ronnie dislikes dressing up and prefers to wear tank tops and jeans. “Well, I must say, you look beautiful anyway,” she rolled her eyes, again looking annoyed by my comments“Just hurry up and get ready, so we can get this night over with, so I can get out of this,” she whined at me, I chuckled at her annoyed reactions, “fine,” I went into the house and entered into my purple-themed room, dug out my purple dress.
As I laid the dress on the bed I thought of Mike and how I now had to go to the ball without a partner. I bet he will take Brittany. I shook my head. Why should I care he is nothing but a jerk anyway, I sighed. I needed to get over him.
I walked over to the bathroom attached to my room and took a shower and then stepped into my dress, which was a lace-up disaster.
“Ronnie!” I yelled as I struggled to pull the heart-shaped bodice up over my boobs. She walked in, leaning against the door frame, now watching me struggle to straighten out the tulle bottom.
“Do you require assistance?” she asked with sarcasm and mock concern “Of course, I do you ass,” I said, mostly in my head. Still struggling with the dress. I then glared at her as she stood smiling at me. “No not at all I just called you in here to watch me struggle, that's all,” I remarked sarcastically. She chuckled at me. "Oh well, I can leave" she said, turning to leave. "No, please just help me". I said, sighing. She walked over to me, shaking her head as she tightened her grip on the back of my purple dress and tied it up. “Thank you, hon,” I replied when she was finished.
“Yeah, no problem, want help with your hair?” she asked, looking at the curling iron. With my clumsiness, I always manage to burn myself with it." Yes! That would be amazing,” she chuckled as she took up the hairbrush and began brushing my hair. She then started curling it." Oh by the way, where were you yesterday?" Ronnie asked, still parting my hair and curling it. I knew she would eventually ask me since I ghosted her yesterday.
"I went to Sebastian's house and I accidently passed out longer than I intended." which technically wasn't a lie. "Why did you go to Sebastian's? I thought you went to Mike's?" Ronnie asked, still doing my hair. "Yeah, he had to run errands with his dad, so he wasn't home, so I went to see if Sebastian was home." I knew I should just tell her the truth and she wouldn't be mad at me but I also didn't want to ruin her event tonight since I knew he would be there. "Well you're just lucky that I didn't need alot of help and that Alex agreed to do it" she said Curling the last strand of my hair. "He agreed?" I asked puzzled "Mhm he will be there tonight, alright your hair is done I will meet you in the car we can talk more later" Ronnie walked out of the room I looked at myself in the mirror my curls were loose and flowing around my shoulders I tied it up in a cute updo .
I did my makeup and when I was done, I grabbed my mask and made my way outside to the driver whom Ronald had summoned. We insisted on taking one of our vehicles, but apparently being a Dalton requires you to make public appearances for the paparazzi.
“Are you excited about the ball?” I asked Ronnie as she opened a bottle of liquor, "Absolutely not. I hate this event. My mom was always the one for these things", I sighed.
"So, who's your date?" She drank a shot glass of whiskey and smiled at me, "William," she smiled and put down the glass. I nodded, "is he your flavor of the month?" I said sarcastically, and she rolled her eyes at me. "We can't all be lucky to be engaged, Addie," she said, offering me the whiskey and shot glass. I accepted it and took a shot.
Michael Huntley was that guy; we all know him as "the one," the guy you give everything to, the one you put all your trust in, and think he'll be your everything. We met in high school and stayed together throughout college. He had planned to propose to me during our sophomore year of college, but couldn't get Sebastian to ever approve. Besides, before that, our relationship was a secret. Which now that I think about it I wish I had listened to ol Bassy. I chuckled at the thought of calling him that, his reaction would be priceless.
"I didn't mean it that way, Ronnie,” I replied, she looked at me briefly , “sorry Addie.” It's not you; I've just been a little stressed lately.” I nodded, "What's going on?" She took another shot, then raised the glass and whiskey, saying, "My father wants me to be serious with someone." He actually wants me to marry” I burst out laughing, “this is serious Addie” I stopped laughing and looked at her.
