Chapter 5: Billionaire Overnight

750 Words
********In the car****** Alex entered with the documents in his hands, and he looked at them with a sceptical gaze. The offer was tempting but also dangerous. Agreeing to the offer means throwing himself into a political game. Where he is hated and has people antagonise him. He was still contemplating when he was interrupted by the buzzing sound of his ringing phone. He picked it up from his pocket and, seeing the caller, he was almost off the phone. It was no one else but Rachel who had just divorced him. “What does she want from me now,” Alex thought as he finally picked up. “What do you want?” Alex said in a deep emotionless voice. “Where are you?” Rachel asked over the phone. With the angry sounds coming from the background, Alex knew there was a commotion. “Where else did you expect me to be?” Alex replied with an answer. “Dad was freaking out and getting angry after I told him about the divorce and you leaving. I want you to come home and explain to him. In return, you will get paid for your service and also get accommodation. It is already raining now and it will be cold outside,” Rachel said over the phone. Hearing her reason for calling, Alex squeezed the phone hard in anger. She didn't even feel an inch of remorse for what she did and instead wants to use him for her own advantage. “What a despicable and shameless woman,” Alex thought angrily. “Leaving your house means I have cut all the ties with you. Solve your problem yourself and don't you dare call this number again or you will die a miserable death,” Alex warned. “Are you kidding me right now? Threatening me?” Rachel asked with a scoff and mocking laugh. “Listen, I am giving you a chance but you want to prove headstrong. You are penniless and all alone without shelter. I will give you one last chance, it is either you take the opportunity or regret it throughout your miserable life,” Rachel said in a cold voice. Hearing this, Alex laughed. He is currently being begged to take the offer of an asset worth over 100 billion dollars, and she dares to call him penniless. “I will say this warning again, don't ever call this line again,” Alex said as he hung up the call. He hissed in irritation. “What's wrong, young master Alex?” Old man Cole asked as he entered the car. “Nothing,” Alex said as he put the phone in his pocket. Seeing the old model phone which is held together by a rubber band, old man Cole shook his head in bitterness. “Just what kind of life has the young master been through all these years?” He asked himself inwardly. “Do you have a pen there?” Alex asked, looking at old man Cole. “Yes, young master,” Old man Cole said as he handed him a pen. “You should stop calling me young master. Alex is okay,” Alex said as he took the pen from him. “Are you sure you are ready to sign it now?” Old man Cole asked, guessing what Alex would do after seeing him bring out the files. “I have been through hell all these years, a little threat from becoming the new head shouldn't be a problem,” Alex said as he signed his part of the documents. “Congratulations, young master, for successfully taking over,” Old man Cole said with a genuine smile. “Old man Cole,” Alex suddenly called in a low voice only they could hear. “Do you need anything, young master?” Old man Cole asked. “I know taking over the business would mean putting me in the spotlight, making me an enemy. But can you be my support? You know the family better than I since I left,” Alex said. “You can rest assured, young master. I promise to do my best to keep you safe even if it is the last thing I do,” Old man Cole said. “Thanks,” Alex said as he passed the files to him. “I will have them viewed by the lawyer and the asset transferred to you first thing tomorrow morning,” Old Man Cole said.
