THE MURDER CASE OF GARCIA SIBLINGS
"Why are you trying to bring back the case that has been buried in oblivion?!" Our boss asked him in an angry tone.
"I promise you, Chief. In this case, real justice is not really obtained," Erwin explained to him as I sat next to the chief and just listened to them.
While they argued, I looked at the papers Erwin had given to the chief and I laughed at the case I read. Because of my laughter they both stopped arguing and I looked at Erwin with a mixture of teasing.
"The Murder Case Of Garcia Siblings 1965. Seriously, Erwin? This case was 56 years ago and the suspect also passed away a long time ago. So what's your point for reopening this case? Are you losing your mind?" I said sarcastically.
"If you help me, you will know my point," he insisted.
"Ok i will help you in this case but make sure i get something good. Because otherwise, you can leave as a police and consult a psychiatrist immediately," I uttered.
"Let's open this case chief," I took the paper that needed to be signed and I handed it to our chief.
Chief rubbed his forehead and he took a deep breath. "Okay fine, dammit!" he shouted and took the paper I was holding then he quickly signed it.
While I was at Erwin’s house, I sat on the sofa and picked up the papers scattered on his desk.
The content of the papers was information about the deaths of the three Garcia sisters.
Based on what i read, the Garcia family is rich and they are known to be a happy family but everyone’s shocked when the news came out that Pau Lino Garcia killed his three own dauthers. Pau pleaded guilty but the high court still sentenced him to the death penalty. The evidence held by the court was strong that he was caught with another woman and his dauthers knew it so that is why he killed his own dauthers Caryll, Luisa and Synxin. And the evidence grew stronger when the servants saw him with his three dauthers before they were killed.
Three siblings died of resultant multiple injuries. But the investigation noticed that before they were killed they went through torture. Because Caryl lost her tongue or was amputated, Luisa had both her ears cut and Synxin had no eyes.
This is the very brutal murder.
"January 11, 1965. Pau Lino Garcia was sentenced to death. The court sentenced the innocent man," he said and sat down on the adjacent sofa.
"How can you say that person is innocent? The evidence is strong that he killed his own dauthers!" I said sarcastically as I pressed my index finger on the paper on the table.
"Because he's my grandfather and my grandmother was his mistress. My grandmother died at the age of 89 but before she died she gave me this notebook. She told me to clear my grandfather’s name," he said and he placed the notebook on the table which I immediately picked up and read.
What was written in the notebook was her grandmother's diary, it records how the two of them met until they fell in love. Their love was happy until they were caught by Pau's three dauthers Caryll, Luisa and Synxin. The two secretly fought their love until their love came to fruition. But unfortunately Pau gave up his love and chose to return to the family to be with his dauthers.
"Pau's love for his dauthers could not be matched by any value even if he gave up his love for me," I read the last part of his grandmother’s writing and I looked at him.
"He loves his dauthers so much, this is why I believe it wasn’t grandpa who killed them," he insisted.
"If he didn’t kill his daughters, then who?" I asked in astonishment.
"So that's the big question we have today. This is the reason why I want to reopen this case to clear my grandfather’s name and fulfill my grandmother’s last request. Mr. Davis, please help me to solve this case," he said and held out his hand.
I smiled and accepted his hand. "I also became interested in this case, let’s work together," I uttered.
ONE DAY LATER
While i was busy getting information, i still got no evidence or who actually killed the three siblings. Until I saw the photo of Pau’s wife.
"Can you get the address where Eve Garcia lives?" I asked.
"Wait, this. I don't know if this is still her address," he answered me and he placed the laptop in front of me.
"We have to go to her. She can be the real killer because what if she already knew that Pau had a woman and she also knew that her children already knew but they just hid it from her, which is why she got angry and killed her own dauthers. You will notice that the missing parts in their body seem to have something to do with their deaths," I explain to him.
"You're right, Caryll may have been killed for her silence or not telling the truth. Luisa is killed for pretending to hear nothing and Synxin is killed for pretending to see nothing," he agreed.
Before sunset, we immediately went to Eve Garcia’s address and assumed we could get information or somehow prove that she was the killer.
When we arrived we were exposed to the big gate that looked old and Erwin immediately knocked on it. And a young girl quickly opened the gate for us.
"What's ours?" she asked.
"I'm Officer Davis. Is this Eve Garcia's address?" I asked and I showed her my chapa.
"Y-Yes, what do you need from her?" she asked in astonishment.
"Can we talk to her?" Erwin said to her but the young girl quickly closed the gate and after a few minutes she immediately returned.
"Come in," she said and we followed her.
As we entered the living room we were exposed to the old woman who was 90+ years old, sitting on it while holding a photograph.
"Hello ma'am, I'm Officer Dav—" but before I could finish what I was about to say she suddenly spoke.
"Finally, I'll let go of the lie I hold before I die, right?" she said and looked at us.
"Can we find out what really happened to the death of your daughters?" Erwin asked her and I immediately started recording our conversation.
"Our family is happy. We had children, he was a very good husband and I was also a good wife to him," she told the story with a smile.
But her smile disappeared from her lips and was replaced by mixed emotions.
"But everything changed when Ally came to our family. She is our helper and I also know that she is Pau’s first love. As time went on, I noticed that there was a difference between the two but I just ignored it. But I knew they had been in a relationship for a long time but I just pretended to be blind, deaf and mute to everything I knew," she told as her tears flowed.
"So what is the connection with the deaths of your three dauthers here and why were they affected by it?" I asked sarcastically and Erwin quickly kicked me.
"I'm sorry ma'am, please continue," Erwin said politely.
"One day, I heard my three dauthers talking. Synxin, sees her father and Ally kissing. While Luis, she heard her father talking about Ally being pregnant with their child and they told about it to Caryll. Caryll wanted to tell me the truth but she didn’t want to hurt me so she chose to keep quiet. Synxin and Luisa also choose not to see or hear anything. But one night, I never thought it would end like that. The three of them talked to their father on the fourth floor. Pau didn’t kill them, their father loved them dearly."
My feathers rose at what I heard and I sat up straight.
"No one killed them but Pau and my lies killed them. They could not bear to keep a secret from me, so they chose to die. Caryll cut her own tongue in front of us and then she jumped on the terrace. Luis cut her own ear and she jumped next. Synxin, she took her two eyes with the knife then jumped as well. My husband and I witnessed the deaths of our three children," she cried.
My tears dripped and I looked at the old woman and clenched my fists.
"But why did you let Pau be sentenced to death for murder he did not commit?" Erwin asked in a disgusted tone.
"Because he deserves it, he is the root and end of the pain that my dauthers and I feel," she sobbed loudly and the young girl immediately led her away from us.
"You can leave now," she said and turned her back on us while she guided the old woman.
I turned off my recording and showed Erwin the cellphone.
"It is not a case of murder but a case of suicide. Partner, the case was resolved." I said smiling but I lost my smile when I saw on the floor the picture of the three siblings.
I smiled, not out of joy but out of sadness. The three of them chose to remain silent, be deaf and blind to protect their mother’s feelings. I looked behind it and I was amazed at what I read.
"SOMETIMES IT'S BETTER TO BE A MUTE, DEAF AND BLIND JUST TO PROTECT OTHERS FEELINGS."
