Chapter 26 The whispers dragged Alex out of an exhausted sleep, far deeper than usual after the stress and excitement of his wedding day. He blinked until he could see his watch. Three twenty-one. Etan was curled up against his chest, an arm around his waist. He squeezed hard enough to force Alex’s breath out. “It’s in the house in the house!” Alex jolted wide awake, heart pounding, ears humming with the strain of listening for the slightest sound. All he could hear was Etan’s ragged breathing. “What’s in the house?” “The record. The ledger of days to come. Find it, Alex. Time is so very short.” “You mean the computers? We’ve looked at those.” Etan shook his head against Alex’s chest. “A journal in his own hand, hidden in the house. Meant for your eye. No other.” “In whose hand?
