Sarah's POV
Sofia, my handmaid, was taking too long to bring my coffee, and my throat was burning with thirst so I decided to go get it myself.
As I walked down the stairs, I met Alec and Angela arranging the dining table together. I halted, watching them as indignation burned in my heart.
Alec planted a kiss on Angela's forehead before planting another one on her stomach. I quickly recalled Garrett saying she was pregnant. I guess it was true with the gestures Alec was making on her.
The lovers were completely unaware of my presence. They joked, laughed and played over everything as they prepared the table for lunch—Something Alec never did with me.
I wondered if it meant he wasn't happy with me during our six years together. I wondered if it meant I was wasting my time hoping that he would come back to me.
“I will get the bowl.” Alec told Angela and left for the kitchen.
“Oh…Luna.” Angela called.
She bared her head to me, “Good afternoon, Luna. I didn't know you would be joining us for lunch.”
Her eyes stared at me timidly before looking away, “Sweet, bring an extra plate. It seems Luna will be joining us for lunch today.” She screamed the words at Alec.
I cringed when she called Alec ‘sweet’ without minding my presence or that of the pack staff.
I mean, he was an Alpha. During our years together, he never let our romance cross the bedroom. It all ended in the bedroom. When we come outside, we are just Alpha and Luna.
He seemed to have changed a lot with Angela. Even his principles were changing too.
Angela's dark eyes sparked with joy as they flashed at me. “How are you doing, Luna?”
I narrowed my eyes at her. I could see through her. It was something I learnt to do during our years of friendship.
Angela Cumi has been my best friend longer than I could remember. She was born out of wedlock by a prostitute Omega.
Despite our rank difference, I loved Angela so much that I took her in and treated her like my sister since I didn't have any.
Everything I had, I made sure Angela had too.
Except my mate and pack.
I trusted Angela so much that I let her stay in the pack house and forced everyone to accord her the same respect as me.
She had cried to me for help after being thrown out by her mate. She was homeless and was treated as trash in the streets. I couldn't let my best friend spoil in the streets so I let her into my home.
And now…I regret that decision. That was my biggest mistake. If only I hadn't done that Alec would still be mine today.
Alec was against me letting Angela stay in our house. We had countless fights because of Angela before he eventually let her stay.
I should have listened to him. I was blinded by my love for my best friend and never thought she would do anything bad to me.
Looking at her eyes now all I could see was pure hatred for me. I was standing in her way. I was the only thing preventing her from getting what she wanted—my mate and pack.
The two things I'd kept from her because they weren't supposed to be shared. They were uniquely mine and mine alone.
I remained silent, only staring at her.
Her eyes peered down hesitantly before flashing at me again.
“Come. Have a seat Luna.” She pulled out a seat, gesturing to me to sit down.
I hardened my gaze at her, “Quit the act, Angela. I know you better than you know yourself. You can't deceive me like you've done with everyone else.”
I averted my gaze to the kitchen, and turned to leave when she grabbed my arm.
“I know you hate me now, Sarah, and I do not hold any resentment against you for that because I'm the one at fault. You accepted me into your home, and loved me like your own blood. And how did I repay you?” I turned to look at Angela and she contnued,“I'm sorry, Sarah. I'm sorry for everything I did to you. I'm ready to make amends. I'm ready to do anything you ask of me just so that we could be friends again.” Her voice was soft and low, and tears fell from her eyes.
I scoffed unbelievably. “You will do anything I ask of you?”
She nodded desperately, holding onto my arm like it was her lifeline as tears strode down her cheeks.
“Then leave.” I stated plainly, and her eyes popped in disbelief. “Disappear from my life and Alec’s and never return.” I spat the words at her, my voice laced with hatred for her.
She let go of my arm quickly, and pressed her hand over her mouth as she staggered back.
“I can't.” She cried, falling on her knees. “I wish I could. I would have done it a long time ago. I'm pregnant, Sarah. I'm carrying the Alpha's heir. I know you've wanted to for a long time but the moon goddess didn't bless you with it. She gave me a son for the Alpha and now I no longer have a say in how I live my life anymore. The Alpha and pack are so careful that I can't even go to pee on my own so how can I leave the pack house?”
She held my arm again, “Please, Sarah. Ask me something else. Something I can do.”
“I have nothing else to ask of you.” I shoved her hands away, and continued walking to the kitchen.
She ran to me and hugged me from behind. “Please, Sarah. Forgive me. I will do anything for you to forgive me.”
“Let me go.” I struggled to free myself from her when she suddenly fell on the floor and screamed.
My eyes widened at her as I wondered what she was doing. I never pushed her.
Alec rushed in with a bowl and a plate in his hands. He threw them away, and they hit the floor smashing and clattering. He rushed to Angela who laid on the floor screaming in pain.
“What's happened, Angel?” He asked, helping her to sit up.
I watched Angela breathing high and low before pointing her finger at me.
“Luna pushed her down when she was trying to plead for forgiveness.” Elder Larkin said.
I looked at him. I didn't realize he was there until now.
My gaze returned to Alec, he rose up, swollen in anger as he approached me.
“How dare you?” He growled, and before I could say anything his hand landed on my face.
My vision swirled, I saw stars, and a ringing vibration rang through my ears. Only when my vision cleared a bit did I realise I wasn't standing on my own. Garrett was behind me, holding me, otherwise, I would have hit the floor.
Shock gripped me as I looked up at Alec with wide eyes. Alec never raised his hand on me.
But now he did because of Angela.
His eyes darkened with rage as they glared at me.
I doubted if he was the same man who said he loved me and couldn't live without me. I doubted if he was the same man who made those countless promises to me. The promises he'd all broken today.
My vision blurred from the tears that gathered around my eyes.
I watched Alec scoop Angela into his arms and rose up.
“Hope you enjoy the lunch. You've just ruined it like you ruined everything else.” He spat at me and walked away with Angela in his arms.
My eyes remained on him, and just after he walked past everyone. Angela peered at me from his shoulder, her lips stretched into a wicked smirk.
It dawned on me that this was her plan from the beginning. I looked at the faces of the staff and the few elders that had come to visit. Their accusing eyes peered at me, holding some sort of hatred for me.
I could tell the voices in their eyes; I was a bad Luna who was so selfish and didn't want the good of the pack.
Angela succeeded in not only turning my mate against me but also my pack.
“Let me take you to your room, Luna.” Garrett suggested, and I looked up at him.
He was the only one who looked at me differently. His eyes still held loyalty and respect for me.
“I'm okay.” I mumbled, taking his hands off me and climbing up the stairs as the hateful eyes of the pack members weighed on me.
I walked into my room and never stepped out again. All I needed was brought to me in my room for the past three days.
I couldn't bear seeing the pack I gave my whole life to look at me like that. I couldn't bear crossing paths with Alec and Angela so I remained in my room. That was the only way to avoid seeing them for a while.
But even that didn't help.
My door bursted open, and a group of soldiers led by Victor, the Gamma, stormed into my room.
“Sarah Keraman, you're wanted downstairs now.” Victor ordered.
I glared at him as I sat up on my bed.
“What's wrong with you, Victor? Have you lost all respect for me? You must accord me my due respect as your Luna now.” I demanded.
“I'm sorry, Luna. But this is not the time for that.” He countered, grabbing my arms and pulling me out of the bed.
My soul, body and mind gripped with shock as I stared dumbfoundedly at Victor and the other guards who followed behind us.
“What are you doing?” I struggled against his grip, trying to free myself.
“You will know when we get downstairs.”
