Chapter 13
As dusk descended on the island, Rolf and Neil rode home side-by-side. Twice more they had come together in the clearing beside the pond, and each time the depth of their love for each other increased. Neil was filled with an inexplicable happiness. His mind swirled with thoughts of the future. Surely this was meant to be. Somehow he and Rolf would forge a life together. He wasn’t sure how this could come to pass, as he was a summer employee, and Rolf lived on the island year-round. But they would find a way. They had to.
When they reached the barns, they unsaddled their horses and bedded them for the night, giving each an extra flake of hay. The day had been so perfect, Neil didn’t want to think of saying good night.
