Chapter10

Isabella turned her face and saw the violin case in his hands, her eyes lighting up. She hurried over, taking the case from him. Opening the lid, she carefully examined the violin, ensuring the body was intact with no damage. She let out a sigh of relief, cradling the violin in her arms, and looked at Dominic with gratitude. Just as she was about to express her thanks, Dominic was one step ahead. "Now, can we have breakfast?" Putting the violin away to the side, Isabella sat down beside him, scanning the breakfast on the table. To her surprise, it was her favorite breakfast from her frequent dining spot. She never expected this big man to be so attentive. Isabella scooped a spoonful of oatmeal. It's warm enough to be comforting. Since her family fell on hard times, she hadn't enjoyed breakfast from this place in a long time. The prices there were no longer within Isabella's budget. Drinking it down, the warm sensation eased the discomfort in her stomach caused by the previous night's drinking. Holding the bowl, Isabella turned her face towards Dominic, speaking earnestly, "This time... I owe you a favor." They were only in a contractual marriage, and he wasn't obligated to take care of her or handle these miscellaneous matters. Dominic raised his eyes, his deep and dark gaze penetratingly looking at her. The complexity in a man's eyes was beyond Isabella's understanding. But... her intuition told her that he seemed a bit displeased. Perhaps he found her talkative? Not wanting to upset him, Isabella focused on eating, refraining from speaking further. Dominic picked up a custard bun, took a single bite, frowned, and placed it back on the plate. He didn't touch the oatmeal either. Observing this, Isabella raised an eyebrow. Clearly, he bought the food, but he wasn't eating it. The thoughts of this dominating executive were truly beyond her comprehension. His pocket vibrated, and Dominic took out his phone, listened for a moment, then hung up. "The company still needs my attention. I'll leave first." Seeing him about to leave, Isabella felt a sense of relief. "Alright." "You're looking forward to my departure so much?" Isabella:... Was she making it so obvious? "Of course... not." Isabella coughed lightly, telling a white lie. "I just don't want to interfere with your work." Seeing through her little scheme, Dominic didn't expose it. Isabella took the initiative to stand up, escorting him to the door. As the door opened, the chilly autumn wind immediately swept in. Seeing him wearing only a thin black shirt, Isabella recalled the man's coat in the trash bin, and her heart stirred. "Wait a moment." Turning around, she hurried upstairs. From the wardrobe, she took out a gray floral men's cashmere coat and rushed down to hand it to him. "I originally bought this to give to someone else. It's getting cold outside, so if you don't mind, just wear it temporarily." Dominic's gaze swept over the coat in her hands. "For Maximilian?" Her good intentions were misunderstood! "Wear it or not!" With a poker face, Isabella prepared to take the coat back. In fact, the coat was meant as a birthday gift for her brother. However, her brother was still in prison and couldn't wear it. Dominic reached out, snatching the coat away and putting it on. He's tall with long legs, a natural clothes hanger. The clothes fit perfectly, paired with his black shirt, making him look as handsome as a model from a fashion magazine. Noticing a tag still hanging at the collar, Isabella took the initiative to grab scissors and cut it off. "There we go." Before she could step back, Dominic tightened his grip around her slender waist, lowered his face, and teased, "Mrs. Kingsley, did you forget something?" "What?" "When a wife sees her husband off, she should give him a farewell kiss and say, 'Hunny, see you later!'" His tone held a hint of playfulness and recklessness. His dark eyes, with a slightly curved smile, were exceptionally charming. Wanting to get rid of this troublemaker quickly, Isabella lifted her face, intending to give him a perfunctory kiss on the cheek. However, Dominic tilted his face, and her lips landed on the corner of his mouth. Heart pounding, Isabella hastily escaped his embrace, retreated into the hallway, and slammed the door shut. "See you later!" Outside the door, Dominic glanced at the car keys hanging from his fingers, smiled, and turned to descend the steps. Inside, Isabella stood by the door, her heart still pounding. Knock, knock, knock! The door was knocked again. Thinking it was Dominic returning, Isabella opened the door without much patience. "Do you ever stop?" Outside the door stood her childhood friend, Grace Thompson. "What, not welcoming me?" Grace tossed her bag onto the sofa as she entered. "Where's the stuff?" "It's upstairs. I've packed everything," Isabella replied. With the house scheduled for foreclosure today, Isabella had already decided to move to the dorm. It would save money and be convenient for attending classes. However, with so many records and stuff, there was simply no space in the dormitory. She had to seek help from Grace to temporarily store those stuff at her place. Both girls went upstairs together, brought down the packed belongings, and loaded them into Grace's car. Carrying dozens of large boxes, the two young girls were sweating. Isabella opened the fridge, intending to grab a drink for them, only to realize it was empty. Busy with various matters these days, she hadn't even had time to go grocery shopping. "It's okay, I have water in the car," Grace said, bringing two bottles. "Actually," Grace continued, "why don't you come home with me? It's more convenient for studying and eating." "No, I'll stay in the dorm. Thank you though." "Alright." Grace nodded. "But that scoundrel Maximilian won't bother you again, right?" "No problem." Isabella shook her head. "I've already broken off the engagement with the Ryder family." Not wanting Grace to worry, Isabella didn't mention Dominic's matters. Grace's father had just brought his mistress and their illegitimate child back home. Isabella didn't want her friend to worry about her issues. "That's good. That scumbag..." Grace looked indignant. "He never deserved you!" Not wanting to dwell on these sad matters, Grace quickly changed the subject. "Did you hear? Nathan... the one who wrote you love letters in school, got beaten up last night. Someone broke his leg. Even if he recovers, he's probably going to be disabled." "When did this happen?" "Last night. I heard that scumbag just got released from prison and was ambushed." "Who did it?" Isabella asked. "Who knows. That scumbag relied on his family's money to bully others, did all sorts of bad things. This time, he must have offended someone ruthless." Thinking of something, Grace nervously grabbed Isabella's arm. "By the way! I heard my dad and others talking last night. The little devil from the Kingsley family is back, developing his career. Be careful, you should avoid him." Avoid? Isabella forced a bitter smile. Grace probably couldn't fathom that she was now Mrs. Kingsley.
