Chapter Nine

829 Words
Alpha Frank’s POV continued Once they had got over the shock of seeing the four of us, and then knowing that we had come to take over the search, the twins both accounted for their sides of the story. It seems that Ade intervened just at the right time and I was thankful again, that Alpha Daniel had agreed to get them to hang around for the weekend. When I had rung him before I left yesterday, he was already aware and was preparing to send his packs top trackers out to meet up with Ade and the others so that a larger area could be more methodically searched. About an hour later, there was a knock on the door, Ade opened the door and introduced Sandy, Alpha Daniel’s top tracker. She was short, with sandy blonde hair to her shoulders and looked about 20 years old. Sandy had a few boxes of different sizes, which contained who knows what. Alpha Daniel loved this technology as much as his mate, who passed away a few years ago. Daniel had tried a few inventions and from there was hooked. Once we all sat down around the cottage’s small dinner table, a plan was starting to take place. Sandy, George - another of Daniel’s trackers, would join myself and Ade in the basement, Matt would take charge of the search outside and lead two groups of trackers through the forest and around the quarry. While Chloe and Jo would remain at the cottage to keep the twins company, as they had been through enough in the last few days. After agreeing to meet back up again in four hours and to also keep a mindlink open with Chloe and Jo, who would also serve as the control and communications centre. We split up each going to our assigned locations. In the basement was a dusty and musty smell as the twins had described, so we decided to search each of the corners first before investigating the tunnel. Apart from some dusty boxes, small trinkets and worn out furniture, there was nothing of interest or use. Nothing! As we crept towards the door that opened up to reveal the tunnel, my wolf - who had been quiet since we descended the stairs, woke up and started to pace - when I looked at Sandy and Ade, it seemed as if both their wolves were also acting in the same way. The door to the tunnel itself looked like an ordinary door that needed a fresh coat of white paint, it had a knob but no key hole, just like an internal door. As I went to turn the handle, Sandy told me to stop. Although as an Alpha, I detest being told what to do, something in her voice instructed me to listen. Sandy disappeared and carrying one of the metal containers that her and the rest of Daniel’s trackers had brought with them, appeared again about 5 minutes later. I knew now that Daniel had not just sent food, and radios so that both packs could stay connected to each other, but also equipment to help in the search. Sandy opened the box and took out a large tablet and turned it on, then continued to empty the contents left in the book. Once it had been assembled and the tablet had come on line, there was a state of the art drone with all the latest high tech modifications including night vision and infrared cameras. Sandy passed me the tablet and Daniel had logged in from his pack and wanted to speak with us. Daniel explained that this was the only way he could be with us to help with the search. He went on to explain that he did not feel comfortable sending anyone down the tunnel and that he would rather lose this drone than any wolves from either pack. Sandy, who had obviously used the drone before, started it up and proceeded to control it so that it had lifted off and was moving towards the tunnel entrance. Once it was in the air the camera came to live and showed us nothing but a long, dark tunnel cut into the ground and supported with wooden braces and boarding to keep the roof from caving in. The drone moved at a slow pace and monitored the walls from floor to ceiling thoroughly. We had gone three quarters of the way using this method, when Chloe brought us a coffee and sandwich each and updated us that the others near the quarry had not found anything, however the wolves in the forest had discovered footprints leading to the tree line. They believed these could have been Sam’s as the size did not match any of the searching wolves. They were waiting on Jo and Sally to accompany Sam outside to check. We updated Chloe on our findings and after giving me a kiss, when back up the stairs.
