The following morning, the guys descended down the stairs towards the basement. You could tell that the door had rarely been used as when the Chris opened the door, the hinges made a high piecing screech accompanied by a horrid, stale smell which ended radiating around the ground floor of the cottage. I ended up opening the windows in the immediate area, just to get rid of the smell. The stairs were wooden, with what looked like a fine layer of dust covering them - it reminded me of when my mum puts icing sugar over the tops of mince pies at Christmas.
Mike being the first one down there - he is a bit of a daredevil - hit the light switch and the single light bulb flickered to life which, in turn scared away the darkness. From what I could see from the top of the staircase, were lots of dirty looking wooden crates, furniture covered with dusty grey looking blankets and sheets. Although there was a light down there, Jon had also grabbed a torch, just in case, the light didn’t work or hey found something that the light didn’t shine on enough.
Once Mike, Jon, Chris and Sam had reached the bottom, they each took a corner and started to have a rummage. They would call up the stairs, saying what they had discovered, it was their way of keeping me involved. Suddenly, Chris who had been rummaging in the back right hand corner, shouted up the stairs, that he had found another doorway, however it had been hidden behind a heavy old wooden cabinet. Sam decided to facetime me so that I could also see. I didn’t have a good feeling about the fact that they wanted to all explore where this went as well, but the guys just brushed off my worries and continued to clear cabinet out of their way and started to turn the handle.
From what I could see was a long, dusty, unused corridor, which led further away from the basement, into pitch blackness. I had still had that strange and eerie feeling that this corridor would only lead to trouble and I begged them not to go any further, to block the door up again and come back to the safety of the lounge.
Unfortunately, they guys as normal took no notice of me, (although my feelings had been right on several occasions) and they ventured into the corridor and the neverending blackness. Jon held the torch, whilst Sam was armed with one of the cameras. It seemed as if something was drawing them in, as if they had gone deaf to everything else except that corridor. I gathered my courage and made my way down the staircase and into the basement, but I couldn’t go any further, my heart started to beat rapidly, I started to sweat and feel dizzy. I tried to calm myself down and shout out to the guys but I couldn’t make a sound.
Suddenly, I felt a hand on my shoulder, and an unknown voice telling me to breathe. Whoever it was lifted me up and carried me back up and laid me on the sofa, then I completely blacked out.
