Chapter 2: Catch The Adulterer.

1050 Words
Looking at the woman in front of him, with her affectionate gaze, Ethan mumbled: “I’m just the live-in son-in-law of the Nicholas family, serving tea, cleaning, and doing household chores every day. I have no money, no status, just living off others. What exactly do you see in me?" Tracy answered confidently: “I like your dependent nature. I’ll take care of you from now on." Damn! How domineering! Was he really this lucky? Tracy opened a bottle of wine, poured herself a glass, and took a large sip. Her face began to flush, and her eyes seemed to glisten with unshed tears: “Ethan, I gave up my best friend Rebecca for you. I even agreed to be the other woman, willing to be the mistress, scorned by everyone. Do you still not appreciate my love?" The atmosphere in the room turned sweet and affectionate. Ethan thought that he absolutely couldn't betray such a devoted woman. If he continued hesitating, he'd no longer be worthy of being called a man. After putting out his cigarette, Ethan suddenly stood up, walking step by step toward Tracy. 'If I must die under the charm of a beautiful woman, so be it. I'll be a carefree ghost.' Damn it, who cares anymore. ...! At that moment, Rebecca was in the next room. "Damn it, Ethan is such a scumbag! Rebecca, he's cheating on you." On her laptop screen, the high-definition video clearly showed Ethan and Tracy. The sound was so clear it was like watching an HD movie. Rebecca, dressed in a white uniform, sat at her desk, staring intently at the screen. Rebecca was stunningly beautiful, with a flawless figure and delicate features that outshone even the most exquisite flowers. Moreover, the cold, distant aura between her brows pushed people away from her, making others yearn to get close but unable to muster the courage. They could only admire her from afar or dream of her in their fantasies. She was Ethan's wife. The CEO of Emerald Hospital in Crimson City and the heiress of the powerful Nicholas family. But now, Rebecca's face turned pale as she watched Ethan finally move toward Tracy. "Ethan, how dare you do this to my best friend. You're worse than an animal." "Bang." Norah Miller slammed a wooden baseball bat onto the table: “Damn it, I knew he was a scumbag. Rebecca, let's go catch him in the act." Norah filled with fury as if she were the one being cheated on, shoved a large ashtray into Rebecca's hand and dragged her out to confront the cheater. Norah Miller was also a beautiful woman, Rebecca's close friend, and a professor at the Crimson Drama Academy. The idea to spy on Ethan had been Norah’s. The two stormed into Ethan's room. Winging her bat and gritting her teeth, Norah said: “Rebecca, you've been married to him for three years, working hard to support him, and not only is he ungrateful, but now he's ruining your friendship. He’s gone too far!" Rebecca furrowed her brows, her eyes filled with pain. She came from a noble family, with beauty that made many women envious. As CEO of Emerald Hospital, part of the Nicholas family empire, she was the dream of every man in Crimson City. Yet, three years ago, following her grandfather's dying wish, she gave up the chance to marry into another powerful family, lowering herself to marry Ethan. Since their marriage, Ethan had been lazy, accomplishing nothing. Rebecca endured ridicule from family and friends, growing more resentful of Ethan as the days passed. Over the past three years, she had slowly come to accept this marriage, thinking that as long as Ethan treated her well, she could tolerate having a useless husband. Now, she felt like her tolerance had been for nothing. Suppressing her fury and deep-seated frustration, Rebecca reached Ethan's door and kicked it forcefully: “Ethan, you scumbag, get out here!" "Bang, bang, bang." Rebecca kicked the door repeatedly, tears of anger streaming down her face. Even though Rebecca was an illegitimate child of the Nicholas family, she was still the daughter of a powerful family, destined to marry into wealth and prestige. But three years ago, when Old Man Nicholas passed away, Rebecca was forced to marry Ethan to quell the rumors and criticism. Was the old man crazy? The scandal rocked the city at the time. Ethan became the live-in son-in-law of the Nicholas family. For the past three years, Ethan had been mooching off Rebecca’s allowance, doing nothing but lazing around the house. Ethan had become a disgrace in the eyes of the Nicholas family. Rebecca, too, had been subjected to scorn and cold stares from everyone. From then on, the Nicholas family had been urging Rebecca to divorce Ethan. But the lingering influence of the old man was too strong, and since Ethan hadn't committed any grave mistakes, their miserable marriage dragged on. But now, Ethan had the audacity to cheat on Rebecca! This was Ethan daring to betray the entire Nicholas family. If the Nicholas family became angry, Ethan’s fate would be worse than that of a dog or a pig. And Rebecca felt that scum like him deserved nothing less. The door wouldn't budge. Norah pulled out a key card, swiped it, and unlocked the door. They were well-prepared. "Ethan, you scumbag! Get your filthy hands off her now!" Norah shouted as she stormed into the room, swinging her bat. "Ethan, you’re done for. How dare you betray Rebecca? Just wait and see how I handle you!" Norah had already planned out what to say next. First, she’d point out all of Ethan's animalistic behavior, thoroughly shaming him on a moral level. Then, she'd beat him so badly that he wouldn’t be able to fight back. Finally, she'd make Ethan kneel, beg for forgiveness, and write a letter of repentance. Afterward, she’d force Ethan to initiate the divorce, saving Rebecca from her misery. In their minds, Ethan was a cowardly, useless husband. Handling such a man was easy—there were plenty of ways to make him wish he were dead. But when they entered the room, Norah froze in surprise. Ethan was… exercising in the living room! And Tracy… was exercising along with him.
