Ethan chuckled lightly: “Isn’t it better to live peacefully? Why force me to kneel and apologize? Ha, I had no choice, after all. I’m just that kind-hearted.”
If anyone else had said that, Chester would have fought them. But coming from Mr. Wang, it sounded strangely pleasant.
Ethan turned to look at Albert, who had been so terrified that he wet his pants, with a puddle forming beneath him.
Ethan said: “Albert, why couldn’t you behave properly? You kept saying I couldn’t mess with the Nicholas family, but look at the outcome now—are you satisfied?”
“Satisfied! I agree to wash dishes here for the rest of my life, just please don’t cut off my hand.” Albert said, trembling with fear.
“Your hand is too dirty; it’s not worth keeping.” Ethan replied: “I’ll leave you with this: think carefully about what you’ve done recently.” he added before turning to leave. As he departed, he said to Fabian: “Nothing happened here today, and Ethan Wang never came to the Silver Fork.”
“Farewell, Mr. Wang!” Fabian knelt down, bowing as Ethan left.
It was a long time after Ethan had exited the VIP room that Fabian felt the air around him return to its normal temperature. Slowly rising to his feet, he glanced at Chester and Albert, saying coldly: “Today, Mr. Wang was merciful. With just one word from him, you both would have vanished from this world.”
Chester felt as if he’d been granted a pardon, kneeling back down and not daring to rise: “Mr. Fabian, who exactly is this Mr. Wang? How could he be even more fearsome than you?”
Fabian looked up at the ceiling, sighed deeply, and said: “I’m but an ant on the ground; he is a dragon in the sky.”
Chester’s fear deepened. Hearing such words from Fabian made him even more terrified of Mr. Wang.
After a moment, Fabian turned to Albert and asked: “Did you offend someone recently?”
Albert thought back over his recent actions. He had flirted with a few innocent women and deceived them, but none of them came from powerful backgrounds. The only possibility was what he did to Rebecca.
Could this man be someone backing Rebecca?
But that didn’t seem possible.
Fabian’s tone turned icy: “Speak the truth, or you’ll meet a terrible end.”
Albert had no choice but to recount the entire story of how he had wronged Rebecca.
Fabian seemed to grasp something immediately and said: “Forget about your position as General Manager. From now on, you’ll come to the Silver Fork every day after work to wash dishes. If you dare defy this order, don’t blame me, Fabian, for wiping out the entire Nicholas family!”
Dallas added: “As for what happened here today, if anyone dares to leak a single word, I, Dallas, will annihilate their entire family!”
Meanwhile, at Rebecca’s residence in the Garden apartments in Rose Town.
Rosie Connor, dressed in a light purple cheongsam, sat elegantly by the tea table, her eyes flashing with coldness: “Rebecca, who would’ve thought that live-in son-in-law was so despicable? I was mistaken about him. When Ethan arrives, we’ll proceed with the divorce.”
Although Rosie was over forty, she had maintained her figure remarkably well, exuding a mature beauty that was still captivating.
“Yes.” Rebecca replied, opening her marriage certificate. She looked at their wedding photo and let out a self-mocking smile.
She ridiculed herself for wasting three years of her youth.
And for how unfair fate had been.
One last instruction from old Mr. Nicholas on his deathbed had buried her love and wasted another three years.
Usually, even if Ethan didn’t make a significant mistake, even if Rebecca and Rosie wanted to kick him out, the Nicholas family would oppose it. After all, the Nicholas family’s wealth was built by old Mr. Nicholas, and though he was gone, his reputation remained.
But now that Ethan had cheated, and Rebecca sought a divorce, the Nicholas family had no reason to object. It was all Ethan’s fault for being such a scoundrel.
Rebecca had endured enough of having her life arranged by others.
But today, this three-year-long nightmare would finally come to an end.
The despicable man would be completely out of her life.
After waiting two hours, Ethan still hadn’t arrived.
Rosie grew impatient: “That scumbag isn’t trying to avoid this, is he?”
“I told him yesterday about the divorce. If he has any shame, he’ll show up.” Rebecca said, thinking of the man who went out to find other women, her face full of disgust.
“Eating and living off us for three years, then cheating, and now he still wants to cling on? He’s the most shameless man I’ve ever met!” Rosie banged her hand on the table: “If he doesn’t come today, we’ll file a lawsuit in court.”
Soon after, there was a knock on the door. Rosie hurried to open it but found not Ethan but two familiar faces.
One was Albert Nicholas, and the other was Fred Nicholas.
Normally, Albert was arrogant, but now he was meek, following behind Fred and not even daring to breathe loudly.
Everyone knew that Fred was the most outstanding third-generation member of the Nicholas family, chosen by Mrs. Nicholas to lead the family in the future.
At a young age, he was already Vice President of the Nicholas Group, considered a talented, outstanding individual among the younger generation in Crimson City.
Rosie’s face was filled with surprise: “Chairman Nicholas, what brings you here?”
Fred stood with his arms crossed, his demeanor clearly superior: “I heard Rebecca wants to divorce Ethan. This marriage was arranged by my late grandfather, an important matter for our family. Grandma was quite shocked to hear this, so she asked me to come and understand the situation.”
Rosie responded irritably: “What’s there to understand? That useless Ethan has been eating and living off us, and we tolerated it out of respect for your grandfather. But now, he’s openly cheated, and this marriage must end. Even if your grandfather were still alive, this divorce would still happen.”
Fred remained neutral, merely saying: “A scoundrel like him doesn’t deserve mercy. Grandma is also considering the divorce.”
The Nicholas family, of course, wanted Rebecca to divorce as soon as possible but pretended to respect the old man’s wishes, just to show their filial piety.
Rosie breathed a sigh of relief, gratefully saying: “Everything’s ready. Now we’re just waiting for that scumbag Ethan to come and finalize the divorce.”
