The silence in the resort was no longer peaceful.
It was now filled with unspoken words.
Every glance held a question…
And every movement was interpreted in two different ways.
In the small meeting room, everyone sat down again.
But the seating arrangement had changed automatically.
No one was sitting “at random” anymore.
Instead, everyone had chosen a spot from which to observe the others.
Daniel opened the door.
Daniel Mercer (the investigator):
“I’m not going to beat around the bush. One of us knows more than he’s saying.”
Silence.
Lucas Brennan (the writer):
“And who exactly are you referring to?”
Daniel looked directly at him.
Daniel Mercer:
“No one in particular… yet.”
But this statement didn’t reassure anyone.
It only increased the suspicion.
Ethan Blake (sharply):
“This is a dangerous tactic. An indirect accusation without evidence will turn us against each other.”
Daniel Mercer:
“We already are.”
Maya had been looking at the ground the whole time.
But then she suddenly looked up:
“Lucas… why were you the first one to reach Noah’s door?”
The room froze.
Lucas Brennan (shocked):
“What? I didn’t go into that room!”
Maya:
“I’m not saying you went in… I’m saying I saw you near it before we all arrived.”
Daniel Mercer:
“Is that a direct accusation?”
Maya (voiced):
“I don’t know… but I saw someone who looked like him.”
Ethan:
“That’s not evidence. That’s a memory lapse.”
Lucas (excitedly):
“Or someone’s trying to frame me!”
Victoria Hill:
“Fear makes memory inaccurate.”
Then she looked at Maya:
“But sometimes… fear makes it more accurate than we’d like.”
A heavy silence.
Daniel notices something important:
Lucas is angry but not completely confused.
Maya is scared but certain of something.
Ethan is trying to control the conversation.
Victoria is observing more than she speaks.
Daniel Mercer:
“So now we have only two possibilities:”
He looks up.
“Either Maya saw something real…
Or someone is deliberately trying to sow doubt between us.”
Daniel stands.
Then he says:
“And in either case… that means the killer isn’t just killing.”
He pauses.
“He’s watching us fall apart.”
