Abril woke up with a severe headache. The light entering the room bothered her, so she used her hand to block it from her eyes. The door opened, and she immediately heard Alessandro's voice as he hurried to her side, wrapped his arms around her, and said with a broken voice, "Thank goodness you're awake."
Alessandro was hugging her tightly, and Abril felt she would be crushed if he didn't let go.
"Lessan, you'll make me faint if you keep hugging me so tightly."
Alessandro loosened his embrace but didn't release her; he was trembling slightly, and Abril asked, "What happened? Did we win?"
"Yes."
"That's good, as it's finally over."
Abril replied somewhat sadly, knowing the victory came at a high cost; she had lost her mother and her father, who, deep down, did love her.
