I was standing at the window in my study, overlooking my park, after my guest left. I have no idea of how long I was standing there, lost in my own pain. I did not notice the knock on the door. Just as they entered, it was late, since the dusk was upon us. My Beta, Pete and his wife, Shelia walked in. He sad down on a chair by my desk, at that women he had married posed her self on my sofa. Did I not know that she was just as much wolf as I, I would have sworn that she was a continuously grooming herself, sometimes she even sounded as if she spun! “what’s up whit old man Hyde?” Pete asked. I turned towards them, placing my hands on the back of my chair. “He had a proposal to me!” Pete raised a brow, “to marry his daughter!” He was speechless, but his wife was not! “Oh, since when dos he has daughter?” she smiled shyly and almost looked down, as if speaking to me made her shy! But I knew she was all fake, and so not getting in that trap! “She turned 16 a few weeks ago!” I replied looking at Pete. Shelia almost got up, kind of chocked, but she fast found her way back in her role of shyness “Well not that it mattes, you can not marry her! Alpha and a human girl!” I ignored her, asking my Beta “Did you know that he is a wolf?”  now she almost jumped of the sofa, making a sound as if I had purred ice cold water over her! “He’s what?” Pete, ignoring his wife, “No, I did not!” Shelia got up and walk to Pete, placing both her hands on his shoulders, “You can not be… no, he’s not a… I mean they have dogs in the garden!” She looked at me whit disbelieve. “Not only is he a wolf, he’s half wizard to!” Pete looked up at me. “How old is he? Where are he from?” I knew why he asked, it happens, that a male wolf falls in love whit a wicked woman, and out of that love, sometimes comes children. Poor bastards! The covens won’t have them, once there wolf shows, and if the farther does not claim them, they are alone! And non of us knew about anyone born like that for the last decade. “He said that he’s in his 90’s. He meat his mate late in life, and lost her almost right away.” I turned back to the window, it was already dark outside. “but not before she blessed him whit a child!”  Shelia snorted “That’s just what she is, a child! Only 16… she’s way to young to marry, or to be you’re LUNA!” the last word came out in a high pitch, I swear every wolf and dog for miles heard her! I sighed. “ I told him that to, but Hyde was very convincing, not only did he sway the elders, but he have me believing it’s for the best!” Shelia turned pale and stomped back to the sofa, and dumped very unlike her normal cat like elegance down on it. Pete got up at gave me his hand. Holding my hand in a shake, he looked at med whit at small smile “hope for you’re happiness and await to hear more after dinner! You know my mom is here, and she want’s to pamper you!” I smiled and waited for them to leave. I looked out the window once again. Everyone was on there toes today. The passing of my father, me becoming the Alpha, all while my mother passed just half a year ago.But truth to be said, I had been the Alpha those 6 months since my mother left to be whit the moon and it’s Goodes. My father all r***d up in his sorrow became num and unable to take care of his pack. So, I stepped up and toke on the responsibilities for him. But this an old pack, most of the members left at old, so it’s also a poor pack. It seemed like no mater how hard I worked or how smart I was, the hole thing seemed to slip away from me, and I thought last night as my father died, that it was the end of our pack! Hyde’s proposal was just what we needed. Not only will his daughter bring new blood to the pack, he’ll be giving a huge sum of money to the pack, for his membership so to speak. And that perfume that he sells, that’ll come in handy as well.I sighed, and went down to the small dining room. I gave order this morning, that we were not gathering the pack to night, as when my mother passed, we were waiting for the next day, and every one should come for brunch and stay the hole day. As my father would be rested next to his Luna under the 2. Day of the full moon at midnight! There for we were only a few that evening, my beta, his mother and that wife of his. My fathers Beta and his wife, as well as there daughter. Only the six of us…As I entered the room, I saw that the others were all there, standing at the table waiting for me.I toke my fathers place, for the first time ever. I didn’t take it once while I was taking care of the Alpha duties for him, I was not the alpha and I would not take it, no matter what his Beta said about. I did not want to look like a impatient son, taking this fathers place before time.Standing at the end of the table, I raised my glass; “let give tanks to the moon goddess, for giving my father peace, and let’s ask for her love and guidance to me, as I follow in his place. Let’s pray for the health and happiness of our pack!” the others raised theirs as well; “To the Moon Goddess!” Then we sat down and our dinner was served. Now, Pete did not lie, his mother must have bin in the kitchen all day. Every thing on the table was a favorite food of mine, since I was a child. She even backed a cake for dessert. The talk was spare, if not for Shelia, I wondered how she got any food down, since she was talking almost thru the hole dinner, and after I could not for the life of me remember what she talked about! Back then a alpha was most likely also a noble, under the king. That was one way to apron like humans, so a pack had a lot of the same customs as in a noble house hold. After dinner the female wolf’s left us to the ladies salon. Pete turned to me as soon as the closed the door behind them. “When will the wedding be?” I sighed, well I guess I have to meet the girl first, and formally ask her to marry me!?” Pete had a big smile on his face, “Now that I’d like to se!” My father’s beta, old Jack, cleared his throat, “well it’s custom to wait a year, if you ask the royal court of the human’s, just to keep op the show.” He sighed and leaned in over the table and looked me straight in the eyes, “But as I head Hyde, the sooner the better!” Whit at smirk on his lips “I guess we can excuse the haste whit the fear of not having an heir, would something happen to you?” I  nodded, I did have that concern also, but maybe that would do it. Pete laughs “And Hyde can plea that he want his child to be safe, to have a protector, should something happen to him, in these times!” I moaned “Like hell! He’s the one who is going to protect us!” None of us needed to say a thing, we all knew that this pack was in need of not only his money, but his perfume as well.I was to sacrifi my freedom an right to choce a mate or to wait for my fated!
