~MaryJane’s POV~ “Wait what? You are pregnant and for your own brother?” Calista retorted the exact words on everyone’s minds. I glanced at Christopher, his face a blank canvas. “Are you insane? Of course I’m not the father”. An unbothered Christopher defended while we all just stared. “You’re pregnant?” I repeated, my voice barely a whisper watching Beatrice as she plopped down on the couch, her luggage abandoned by the door. “I’ve had the toughest couple of weeks, between all that morning sickness and my little red lady showing up mid pregnancy, chile”. She yawned, fighting to keep her eyes open. “Get your filthy ass off that couch and answer the damn question!” Calista angrily tugged at Beatrice’s arm. “You are beyond ridiculous, of course I’m not pregnant for Chris but his d**k head best friend” She stressed the last few words while glaring at Christopher. “You and Dean been f*****g? I knew you were up to something with that bastard”. Christopher rolled his eyes in disgust. Everyone that knew Dean was familiar with his uncontested position as a notorious philanderer. “So let me get this straight…” Calista began. “You are pregnant with Dean’s baby and you show up here like he lives here?” “Who let this dog out its Kernel? For someone who isn't part of this family you sure are neck-deep in our business”. Beatrice seethed between gritting teeth. “Oh I'm not just neck-deep, I'm about to be part of this family whether you like it or not”. Calista sneered whilst rubbing her bump. Beatrice turned to look at Christopher in shock and then back at me, her fist clenching into a cannonball. “This is gibberish right?” She questioned, her gaze fixed on her brother looking for a denial that never came His face remained expressionless, “She is carrying my child and she is a part of this family”. My heart shattered at his words, at the way he defended her. “But that was not the plan, We just lost our baby yet you defend her!” I was already living my worst nightmare, there was nothing else to fear so I let my pent-up anger seep through the cracks. “How dare you, Chris? I'm so disappointed in you”. Beatrice spat, disgust plastered across her face. “And who are you to be disappointed in me in my own house? You will overstay your welcome here if you keep up with this disrespect” Christopher replied firmly. “We can forget this babe, it’ll be like it never happened just choose me, be on my side just like it has always been”. I begged advancing towards him. “You are the definition of desperation Maryjane! I can't believe you” Calista mocked. She was right in front of Chris and before I knew it I was face to face with the hard marble floor, my knee throbbing in pain. “Learn your place, and stay in it! I'm the one with the child, I'm the price, I'm the important one so stick to your rat hole and be grateful that you still have a roof over your pathetic head”. She smirked, staring down at me as I held my knee in pain. “He was mine first, he was my…” my voice broke, I crawled towards Christopher and grabbed his feet while Calista kicked me. Beatrice, eyes blazing and face red stepped forward. “That's enough Calista, you think you got the man?” Beatrice chuckled, “You are nothing but a fling and that baby changes nothing for you” She bellowed. “And you….” she said, facing her brother. “You’re no better treating your wife this way. It's cowardly and cruel”. “You just watch, I'll get him back, I'll get my man back” I whispered. Calista’s premature entanglement with my husband wouldn't waver all the storms Chris and I have weathered together. Her sly smile haunted me, she loved this, she loved how pathetic I was, she loved to win and she loved having what was mine but I was going to take back what was mine. “Baby I know you aren't thinking straight. We’ll get through this just like old times” I muttered, wiping my face while he continuously stared at me like an infected dog. “Look I'm not mad, we’ll forget about her, about anyone else, and be normal again”. I begged, feeling his right arm and like clockwork, he flinched. “Don't you dare touch my man”. Calista said before swatting my hand off his arm. He motioned Calista to sit, holding her waist and guiding her to the couch with a tenderness he’d never shown me. My heart bled even more. I wish he could have held me like that when we lost our baby, I wish he would look at me the way he looks at her now. The sound of high heels clicking on the floor interrupted my thoughts. “Why is no one at the door to receive me”. Julia walked in scanning the room, her eyes narrowing in disapproval. I hastily moved towards her, almost missing a step, “Welcome mum, we weren't expecting you”. She shot me a glare and completely ignored me, her gaze sweeping the room until it landed on Calista. Her expression softened and she smiled warmly. “Hello dear, it's so wonderful to see you,” Julia said, rushing over to Calista. “And congratulations darling I see you are pregnant”. Calista smiled rubbing her belly. “Thank you, Julia, I'm thrilled”. I watched as Julia’s eyes lit up. “And who is the lucky father?” Calista turned to Chris, flashing him a smile, while he just stared, “it's Christopher’s,” she answered. “Oh my, what a pleasant surprise. Why wasn't I informed about this?” she turned to me, a mocking glint in her eye. “Your daughter is also pregnant”. Christopher nonchalantly added while Beatrice who sat there quietly the entire time nodded in approval. “Well, looks like you'll have kids running around anytime now”. Beatrice managed to say. Julia’s smile widened as she fixed her gaze on me for more than 10 seconds since she arrived. “Everyone is pregnant but you, I wonder if you are even a real woman”. I was no stranger to Julia’s hostility. She always had been of the opinion that I was good for nothing and maybe I am. “This is good news!” she exclaimed, clasping her hands, her smile expanding by the second. “It means we have a wedding to plan, oh how I love weddings”. Her eyes turned to Beatrice. “Get the event planner on the phone immediately”. “A wedding mum? Whose?” Christopher asked. “Whose? Darling, you finally found a real woman…” she answered gesturing at Calista, “it's only fair you do right by her”. “But…..” “No buts son, you are going to marry her and you are going to do so in 3 days”. She uttered finally
