Chapter 2“Ah, that’s better,” Jem said, stretching naked beside me on the blanket we had brought for this express purpose. He grinned at me wickedly, fair locks tousled, “Now I’m properly home.” And he leaned over me to steal a satisfied kiss. A few days had passed since his arrival, and we were in our usual trysting place, a particular barn no one visited often, especially since it was empty of the leavings of the previous year’s crops, and waiting to be refilled from the harvest to come.
