Of course, it bothered her that she’d somehow forgotten she’d told Alan she didn’t want to celebrate her birthday this year. But spouses and partners say a lot of things the other doesn’t hear. She ignored most of the details of Alan’s recounting of his workday, as she was sure he did hers. She cared nothing at all for the intricacies of software engineering, which was just as much import as he gave art history.
