Chapter 49 — Hickeys

1220 Words
The school bell rang signaling the end of class. I gathered my books and stuffed them into my bag. I zipped it up before slinging the bag onto my shoulder. I adjusted my uniform collar as I made my way out of the classroom. “Aha!” Lena exclaimed, yanking my collar down. I screeched, placing it back up immediately. “What the f**k was that for?” “Who did you do recently?” “What?” I asked, feigning obliviousness. She raised a brow, hands crossed over her chest. “Nice try, Rosie. I've known you long enough to know you're not some delinquent.” “I don't understand what you're talking about,” I mumbled, walking away. She blocked my path. “You've been raising your collars for days now, and I know for a fact that I just saw hickeys…” I tore my gaze away, blushing crazily. “Lots of them, actually.” I cleared my throat, ransacking my brain for the best lie. “I-I-uh…” I cleared my throat, adjusting my collar. She stared at me. Waiting. “A cat—” “Don't even think about lying to me,” Lena deadpanned, unamused. Fucking hell. I glanced at her then back at the floor. “It was really a cat—” “You don't have a f*****g cat, Rosie.” I pursed my lips in annoyance. “The neighbor's cat, actually—” “You live in a secluded plot of land, you have only two neighbors, and they're five miles away from your house and, for Christ’s sake, they don't have a f*****g cat.” I scowled. “How come you know so much about my bloody life?” She rolled her eyes, hip tilting to the side. “Try again, Rosie.” “It was a stray cat.” “Your neighborhood pest control agent makes sure there are no animals in the vicinity.” “What the f**k does that even mean? And who even came up with that?” I squinted, in astonishment. “The General's wife, Mrs Su. How do you not know that?” she muttered dryly. “Why would she do that?” “Because her daughter is allergic to animals.” “I thought she had a pet named kito.” “Short for mosquito, basically it's the only known animal she isn't allergic to.” I blinked in shock. “So… she domesticated a mosquito and made it a pet.” “Who knows… I've never seen the said pet.” “I see…” My eyes zipped around the crowd searching for an escape. “I'm still waiting, Rosie. I can't believe you now hide things from me—your best friend.” I grunted. “I'm serious, Lena. It was a cat—” “Oh please…” she cut in sharply, “That's a stupid lie in itself—” “Since we're on the topic of lies, I can't believe you called that stupid bodyguard of yours that day at school.” “Don't try to change the subject, Rosie—” “I'm just curious, Lena. I'd expected you'd call me first, you know. Since I'm your best friend.” She scoffed lightly. “I only texted him about the situation, since he's my freaking bodyguard as you put it.” “So… basically, while I was out there panicking and worrying about you. You thought to text that douchebag before me.” “He's not a douchebag, Rosie. You're just misunderstanding him.” “Now you're defending the guy that twisted the arm of your best friend.” “Well, since we're on the topic of arms now, what exactly happened to your arm?” I opened my mouth to say something, but she beat me to it. “Oh wait, I know what happened, you fell down the f*****g stairs, didn't you?” It was my turn to roll my eyes and cross my arms over my chest. “I wasn't even going to say that—” “But it'll be one lie after another, right, Rosie.” “What about you then?” I shot back. “He came to mind first, okay? And besides, I thought you'd come to class soon, so I didn't bother texting.” “So, your bodyguard who was miles… away, came to mind before your childhood friend who was closest to you.” She huffed, turning away from me. “If you don't want to say anything, I'm cool with that, Rosie. I just don't like these lies and back and forth with you.” We stood silently for a moment. “Yo, Lena, are you free tonight—” “f**k off, Tommy. I'm not interested!” Lena growled. “Jeez… is the divorce issue kicking in now or what?” I opened my mouth to lash at him, but she beat me to it. “No, Tommy. It's the thought of having you shove your tiny d**k inside of me.” I snickered. A few students did too. His friends did too. Tommy scowled. “Christ, Lena. Could've just said no.” He sulked. “I said that the first time, remember.” His scowl deepened. “Let's go, man.” One of his friends said, pulling him away. “What happened between you two?” I asked, smiling softly. “Got bored, I guess.” She replied. “Found a new d**k, perhaps.” She glared at me, then turned her gaze away. “Alright…” I said, hands raised in mock surrender. I glanced at her. She still wasn't looking at me. I exhaled, shoulders sagging tiredly. “You're right… It's Henry.” Her gaze snapped at mine. Fast. “What did you guys do?” “You don't look as horrified as I expected,” I muttered. She moved closer. “He's still your mother's fiancé, Rosie.” She hissed. “Think I don't know that—” “Did you guys…” she trailed, eyebrows raised. “Uhh… we didn't exactly…” I drawled, raising my collar up. “All these…” she said, referring to the hickeys. “And you guys didn't fuck.” “You know it's not as simple as it looks, Lena.” “Of course I know. Makes me wonder what you'll look like when you both get down and dirty.” I blushed as my mind began painting images of Henry burying himself deep inside— “Earth to Rosie," Lena said, snapping her fingers in front of my face. I blinked. “What did you say?” “You dirty slut…” she snickered, slapping my arm. “I know you were thinking about f*****g Mr Gareth just now.” “I wasn't.” I argued, but I had a feeling the blush on my face was saying a totally different thing. Someone brushed past me, hitting my shoulder slightly. “Ria just told me he's all alone in physics class.” Lyra's voice drifted into my ears. I glanced back. She was talking with one of her minions, as she sorted through her locker. Probably about another boy— “You mean Mr Gareth.” Okay… it was definitely not about some boy.
