“I want you, hm hm hm hm. You want me, hm hm hm.” I hummed along to the music, swaying as I cooked.
A flick on my temple had me wincing.
I glared at Henry then I pulled the headphones from my ear.
“What was that for?” I whined.
“A robber could've broken in and stolen everything without you being none the wiser.”
I rolled my eyes, grabbing a bottle of salt from the cabinet.
“How would a robber come here in the first place?” I replied, sprinkling a bit of salt in the sauce.
Henry leaned on the counter beside me, his hands crossed over his chest.
“What do you mean by how?”
“There's twenty-four-hour security. Every thirty minutes, a sweep is done by the local police. We literally have a team of armed forces on standby for shits like that, and not to mention—”
I paused, facing him fully.
“We have a general and a crime detective as our neighbors. I doubt a robber would be that stupid.”
With that I turned back to the shitty meal I was making.
I glanced at him to find a small smile playing on his lips.
“What's the joke?” I asked, walking to the fridge.
I pulled it open, then stared at its contents thoughtfully.
What goes in after the eggs…
I bent down to grab the tomatoes, only to hear a quiet groan behind me.
I glanced at Henry to find him staring—
Well, well, well.
Lord knows I wasn't moving from this position anytime soon.
I stayed there, staring at the fridge as though in deep thought.
Occasionally, I'd tilt my hip to one side then another.
“Why do I feel like you're doing this on purpose?” Henry said finally.
“What?” I replied, grabbing the tomatoes and shutting the fridge.
Henry's gaze followed mine till I reached the countertop.
“You're becoming quite…” Henry drawled, with his thumb brushing against his lips.
Oh I'm game…
I turned to face him, with my hands crossed over my chest…
Or rather—
Crossed underneath my boobs.
His gaze dropped there briefly, then back to my eyes.
“You were saying?” I remarked, teasingly.
“Mouthy.” He murmured, walking forward.
My gaze followed him, till he stopped.
Right in front of me.
“Really? Is that your best comeback?”
“Hmm…” he hummed, staring at me intensely.
My body sizzled with heat and my p***y clenched tightly.
“You're not saying anything.” I whispered.
“I'm thinking.” Henry replied.
“About what?”
Silence.
For a moment, he just stayed there staring at me.
“I'm thinking of ways to put your mouth to good use.”
Oh Jesus.
No, Rosie.
I'm sure he didn't mean it that way.
Suddenly—
He moved closer, face inching towards mine.
My eyes snapped shut instinctively.
Oh, Rosie.
You're going to get some of Henry Gareth tonight.
I waited.
Patiently.
For that feather-light touch on my lips or cheeks.
I heard the sound of the gas being switched off.
Then—
“Why are you closing your eyes?”
They shot open.
Only to find Henry tossing away the food from the pot.
“What the hell are you doing?” I screeched.
He stared at me dryly.
“You didn't intend to eat that poison, did you?”
I scowled.
“I took my time to cook that.”
“Try taking the time to go to an actual cooking class,” Henry said, placing the burnt pot in another bin.
“We're past the age of going places to learn things, you know?” I retorted.
“Now you could learn these things online.”
“I believe those are tailored for people with a little knowledge of what they're doing.” Henry shot back flatly.
“You don't even know how to boil water, Rosie.”
My scowl deepened.
“That is so… you don't even know that.”
He shook his head and placed another pot on the gas.
“I've known you since forever, Rosie,” Henry said softly.
It wasn't the way he said it.
It was how he said it.
Caressingly.
As though he were handling something fragile.
Longingly.
As though he'd spent years fighting something he couldn't quite escape.
Tenderly.
As though walking on eggshells around that fragile attraction and now…
“I thought you were still angry, so… I didn't want to ask, and I was too hungry to go out and grab a bite.”
“Who says I'm not angry?” Henry said with an eyebrow raised.
“Well, you don't seem angry.”
He smiled softly.
“I wouldn't want you to die of starvation, so tell me whenever you're hungry, okay?”
“Because my mom would haunt you.” I snickered.
“No,” he replied, in a gentle tone.
“Because the thought of you hungry would make me upset.”
I pouted, glaring at him.
Only he could make my heart stutter with a few innocent words.
“It doesn't matter if we fight—whenever you're hungry, come to me and I will cook for you, okay?”
Fuck. My. Stupid. Heart.
It wouldn't stop throwing somersaults.
“Fine…” I muttered, pursing my lips to cover the smile that was threatening to break out on my face.
“Good.”
And so, he continued cooking.
I occasionally peeked behind him as he worked.
“You're distracting me, Rosie.” Henry grunted.
“Well, I want to see,” I mumbled, pulling back.
Twenty minutes later, I was crouched in the corner with an annoyed look on my face.
He stared at my sulking form with an amused look on his face.
“What's with the long face?”
I huffed, throwing my gaze away.
“What's it to you? You chased me away, didn't you?”
He scoffed lightly.
“Is that why you're sulking in the corner?”
“Leave me alone.”
A low chuckle reached my ears, then footsteps.
“Come here.”
“No.”
“Rosie…”
“I said, Leave me alone, Henry—”
He lifted me up with ease.
My legs and arms wound around his body instinctively.
He walked towards the countertop close to the space he was cooking.
“You can sit here, that way you'll get to see me work up close.”
“I like it here better,” I replied with a slight slur to my voice.
He rolled his eyes.
“Get down, Rosie.”
“No, Daddy.”
His fingers curled underneath my thighs, trailing upward.
“You do know I'm trying to cook, right?”
I turned off the gas.
“Problem solved.”
“You need to eat, Rosie.”
“Food can wait.” I whined, pressing my body against him.
His finger tightened beneath my ass.
He didn't move for a short while.
“Please, Henry…” I tried again.
And almost instantly, he began moving.
