Chapter 16 — Smash or Pass

I stared blankly at the board, while my mind kept repeating his words. Fantasy. Disappointment and a fool. I guess I really was, but having someone say it to my face hurt a lot more. “Earth to Rosie…” I blinked as Lena's face came into focus. “I'm sorry, what's up?” She stared at me worriedly. “Are you alright?” I nodded, just as the bell rang signaling the end of class. A few of the students filtered out, while the rest of us sat down awaiting our next class. “You don't look too good, you've been zoning out a lot these days,” Lena said. “I'm fine…” I grumbled. “If 2 moles of hydrogen gas react completely with 1 mole of oxygen gas to form water, how many moles of water will be produced?” “Huh?” I blinked. She frowned softly. “You can talk to me, you know, right?” I rubbed my face, sighing heavily as exhaustion slowly began seeping in. “I guess it's my period.” She stared at me, unbelieving. “I don't know what's going on with you, but you really need to get your s**t together.” “I—” “Ohh it's him…” a girl squeaked, giggling close to me. My gaze moved to the door and there he was… Looking hot and put together as always. My heart clenched painfully, and no matter how much I tried to pull my eyes away. It didn't work It just kept on following him till he reached the podium. Then— His eyes locked with mine. For a moment, my breath caught in my throat and I suddenly forgot to breathe. After a while… he turned away and began addressing the class. Only then did I suck in the air I needed. “Isn't he just hot, Lena?” A girl named Abby said, from beside Lena. “I tell you, he hasn't aged since college.” “I told Rosie the same thing,” Lena said. “I mean, how does he do it?” “What do you think?” I cut in, annoyed. They both turned to me, eyebrows raised expectantly. “It's discipline, of course.” “Damn… that must be some next-level shit.” Abby murmured. “You guys know him?” A girl asked, leaning over her desk in an inconspicuous manner. My scowl deepened. “Yeah… from college.” Abby replied, with a smirk. The girl pouted. “You're all so lucky, all we got were bald-headed and pot-bellies.” Lena and Abby snickered. “Every girl back then had a crush on him, you know… and by every—I mean every.” Abby said, emphasizing on the word ‘every’. “Not everyone though,” Lena countered. “How so?” “Rosie didn't.” They all stared at me and I stared back in surprise. “Is that true?” The girl asked. Shit. I glanced around to notice a few girls were listening to our conversation with interest. I coughed loudly, drawing Henry's attention to us for a moment. “Are you alright, Miss Alphonse?” “Yeah… I am.” I said, rasping a bit. He frowned slightly, then went back to his teaching. “Umm… I was… not really into him.” I stuttered. Abby squinted at me. “Was… or is?” There was no way in hell I'd admit I did. “Nah… he's just not my type.” (You bloody liar.) My mind cussed. And Abby was still staring at me in disbelief. “I don't believe you.” Lena scoffed lightly. “As her friend, I'm telling you she doesn't.” “Why?” “Not everyone is into old men, Abby,” Lena defended. God bless your soul, Lena. “Old? He doesn't look a day over 30, and he's better looking than most guys in their twenties. I mean, look at those muscles.” Abby grinned, licking her lips slightly. “Have some shame, Abby.” Lena scolded. “So what? He's not married, is he?” “Now that you say it, I heard he got engaged recently,” someone said from the group of students. My heart slammed in my chest and I quickly averted my gaze to my desk. “You don't say.” Abby gasped. “My mum told me.” I stared at the person, realizing it was none other than Ria, our principal's child. No wonder. “I feel bad for the girl whose mother gets to smash that every night while she listens.” Abby snickered. And everyone followed. Fucking b***h. “Well, since Rosie doesn't want Mr drop dead gorgeous, then it's more for the rest of us, right?” My head snapped towards Abby in confusion. “What do you mean by that?” I asked. “What do you think?” She smirked. “Alongside getting good grades, I've decided to add getting into Mr Perfect's pants to my university goals.” “What?” I screeched. “Don't look at me like that, I'm sure a lot of girls are already thinking the same thing.” I stared at each one, and they all turned their gaze away, with a guilty expression. “Do you think he's some tool you guys can just use to satisfy your s****l urges?” (Isn't there a bit of hypocrisy in your tone, Rosie.) I clenched my jaw tightly. “Woah… There's no need to get all upset, Rosie. It's not like you want him, right?” “He's engaged, didn't you hear that part.” “Who cares…” Abby said, shrugging carelessly. “I'd definitely love to have him inside of me. I'm sure he'd fit just right…” They all chuckled softly. My fingers fisted in my lap, and it took all my willpower to not smack her across the face. I glanced at Lena to find her staring at me with a knowing look. I wasn't quite sure why I was even angry. Maybe it was because of his blatant rejection the other day. I stared at all the girls looking at him like hungry lionesses. Would he f**k them or reject them? I mean he knew most of us as children. So maybe he wouldn't. (Stop being a dumb b***h, Rosie. He's obviously not going to f**k you because you're off limits, but these girls aren't.) Of course… He's engaged to my mum, he'd soon be my stepdad… that's the main reason why he doesn't want to.
