EVANGELINE
I stared in amazement at the interior decor of Leon’s house. I had not expected it to be so grand and breathtaking. It looked like a real life castle, only with modern accessories to it which made it even more beautiful!
Just like he bragged in those days in school, I never expected Leon to be so rich. I'd thought that it was all a scam when he said he had enough money to buy me.
I paced back and forth in the room nervously, I had been waiting for a while for Leon to show up. Being here, in his house was already enough torture and seeing him, discussing with him? Those could do me so much barm.
His eyes reminded me of how ugly I was, they used to be filled with disdain years ago, but yesterday when I saw him, he looked at me differently.
Although I wondered what this gesture meant. Was this Leon accepting me into his life so easily? Did he think that I would forgive him because he was going to be my husband?.
I decided to keep myself busy as I entertained myself by flipping through pages of what I knew were very expensive books.
A lot of them talked more about self-discipline, self-development and business. I snorted at the self-development part.
For someone who was such a bully reading such books was only mockery to the authors. The door made a low noise, grasping my attention and I turned to see Leon at the door. My blood ran cold as the hairs on my body stood up.
Standing in front of Leon and just looking at him brought back painful memories. The things I had gone through because of him were unforgettable.
I gathered the courage not to cry. I was doing this for my mother and not myself.
We both stood staring at each other for a long time till Leon broke the silence.
“It’s been a while.” Leon said.
I stared at him, nodding my head briskly. I did agree, it had been more than a while.
“Yes. Quite a while, and as much as diving into the past sounds fun, I wouldn’t bank on it. I’m not here to talk about the past but to talk about something quite important. Our wedding.” I said.
Leon stood staring at me with a cool expression. He was so put together and it annoyed me, since my nerves were on the roof as I spoke.
“I... you can’t cancel the wedding. I can’t... this wedding not being held would cost me a lot.” I explained, clenching my fists together, I never imagined that there'll be a situation where I'll have to beg Leon again. I fought hard to control the tears in my eyes.
Leon chuckled lowly in that male sexy voice of his. His eyes looked me over before settling on my eyes.
“This is all because of your mother, right?.” Leon said.
I stood shocked at his words. How had Leon come to know about my mother being sick?
“You... you had me investigated. Didn’t you?.” I asked accusingly.
Leon made no attempt to deny the accusations laid against him. He simply gave me a smile.
“Well, yes. I did have you investigate Evangeline.” Leon said.
I glared at him, hating how smooth and beautiful my name had sounded from his lips. I hated how audacious he was.
And this was meant to be the person I’m to marry?
“Good. Then it means you know this marriage means nothing to me. I’m only doing it for my mother. I’m not in love with you and definitely don’t want to be married to you.” I said sternly.
Leon nodded his head calmly at me, clasping his hands together.
“Very well then. It’s tit for tat right? Then let’s get over it. We don’t necessarily need a ceremony to be married and I’m sure you’d also like to skip that.” Leon said.
I could just imagine me in a white dress going to the altar to say I do to my bully and it did not sit well with me.
I pursed my lips at him to show my distaste in the thought of having a ceremonial marriage with him.
“Then you won’t have a problem signing this contract then. Signing this makes you and I, husband and wife and well... with all the benefits that come with it.” Leon said shabbily, smirking as he handed me the file.
I took the file immediately, flipping through the pages, my eyes scanning through to read what I was about to sign but Leon snatched it away from my hands.
“What was that for?.” I asked with every courage I had.
I knew deep down he still had the power to make me cry with his words and hoped he would not go there.
“You do know you don’t have a choice either ways so just sign the damn papers.” Leon said.
I grabbed the documents from him in rage, picking up the pen on the study table and signed it.
“There!” I yelled out dropping the pen.
“Now, you can read through.” Leon said, smirking evilly at me.
I picked up the already signed document to read through, my eyes bulging as I read through. The conditions stated were ridiculous and unbelievable! But there was nothing I could do. My fate had already been sealed.
“You tricked me, you bastard!” I yelled out.
“No, Eva. You trusted me, again” he replied with an obvious smirk on his face.
I took the file to leave when Leon pulled me back by the hand, forcing me to crash on his chest. He lifted me up, dropping me on the table as he used his strong thighs to part my legs wide so he could fit in.
“What are you doing?.” I panicked as my pulse quickened.
“Where do you think you’re going, wife?.” Leon replied.
I paled as it dawned on me that I had just signed to become this man’s wife. He had every right to touch me now.
“You became mine the moment you signed those papers. I can touch you whenever I want.” Leon said, trailing his fingers lightly on my skin.
I shivered under his touch and felt disgusted with myself.
“Of course. You’ve not been married for more than five seconds and you already want to touch me. That’s what this was all about? You can do whatever you like, after all that’s all you men have always done to me. Use me and dump me. Funny, I’m nothing but a leftover for you to touch.” I said looking at him disgusted at how quick he had began to touch me.
Leon chuckled low in his throat as he brought his lips closer to my ear, his breath fanning my skin.
“You’re my wife Evangeline. Not a leftover. I don’t care about the men you’ve been with before me, or the men that touched you. The most important thing is you’re mine now. Mine to touch. My wife.” Leon said as if he were proud to have me as a wife.
I was about to retort a smart reply when my breath hitched in my throat, my skin burning and my legs clenching together as Leon laid his lips at the pulse on my neck.
He let his lips linger lightly for a while before sucking and licking at my neck. I had never felt such a rush of so much pleasure and want at the same time.
I bit my lips to stop myself from moaning. There was no doubt he was going to leave a hickey. The thought of a huge red mark lying at my neck for the world to see made my eyes snap open.
I placed my hands on Leon’s chest as I pushed him away forcefully.
Leon almost lost his balance and I wished he did. He gave a light laugh, his eyes sparkling which made him look like an Angel but I knew better.
“Get a grip of yourself. Husband.” I bit out irritated as I wiped my lips with the back of my hand.
Coming down, I straightened my dress, picking up the file and leaving Leon’s sight before he could stop me.
From the corner of my eye, I saw Leon lick his lips as he winked at me.
I rushed home to let my father know about my marriage to Leon. I walked in on him talking on the phone.
“Please have her corpse transferred to the morgue and Evangeline mustn’t know about this.” My father said,
“What shouldn’t I know?.” I asked frowning as I stared at him.
“And who is being transferred to the morgue?.” I asked.
My father stood silently staring at me for a long time and then it clicked in my head. I didn’t feel the file slip from my hands onto the floor as tears spilled from my eyes.
“No.” I said, not wanting to believe it was what I had in mind.
“The truth is out now I guess. I’m sorry Evangeline but your mother died last night.” My father said,
I had thought Leon was a monster but the real monster was standing in front of me.
“And you... you let me marry Leon?! My mother had died and you had not even bothered to tell me?! Do you know I was only marrying this man for her sake?!.” I screamed out but my father stared at me with a straight face.
“I believe this is what’s best for everyone.” My father replied.
I couldn’t believe the words that came out from his lips as I launched to attack him but was held back by strong arms of Leon’s guard who flung me over his shoulder.
How he had gotten here, I had no idea but I couldn’t stop the tears that poured uncontrollably from my eyes as I was driven to my new home. Leon’s home.
