CHAPTER 16: "THE TARGET"

1248 Words

LUCAS'S POV I slam my fist on the desk so hard that the glass of rum next to me shakes and spills across the files. I don't care. Not even a little. My blood's boiling too hot to care about some stupid water. "She is still not sure?" I snap, pacing the room like a damn caged animal. "Still?" "She said she is close," Garreth says carefully like he is walking on eggshells. Probably because he is. "She thinks the kid is skilled, sure, but she is not confident it has anything to do with her. Yet." "Not confident?" I stop walking and spin toward him. "You think I hired her to play guessing games?" He says nothing. Of course, he doesn't. He knows better than to run his mouth when I'm like this. I run both hands down my face and let out a long breath. I'm trying to stay calm.
