  ASHER'S POV   I wake up sore. My whole body feels like it has been dragged through the gravel and tossed in a fire pit. Which... yeah, kind of accurate.   I blink a few times. My head is pounding and there is dried blood caked at my temple and my shoulder aches like hell. But none of that really registers right away. Not when the first thing I do is look around.   The space next to me is empty again. Of course, it is. I don't even know why I expected it to be different.   The air is cold, my shirt is half on, and my head is a mess.
