How do you think will this world end?
A set of natural catastrophes or one of those classic zombie apocalypse scenarios perhaps? Nevertheless, none came to guess how the world would really end as everybody is busy with their own lives, dealing with whatever life has thrown at them. So why bother?
Politics are either taken seriously or ignored by those people who do not want another problem to deal with their already busy lives but, once their leader’s decision directly affects them, a revolution will begin to rise.
However, this time, the moment people starts to realize what was wrong it was already too late. The nuke button was already pressed after all…and it was a sudden decision by a selfish leader and to make things worst another button was pressed and soon it became an impending nuclear war catastrophe, one that will destroy Earth for sure.
The last day was a fine and sunny morning like any other day. People are chatting with each other, others went up early to go to their work while some are still sound asleep in their homes. Suddenly, sirens blare throughout the different countries, alarming the citizens about the incoming danger as countless nuclear missiles were launched into the sky.
The government officials sent warnings and told the people to evacuate to higher ground or at least as far as they can away from the cities, however, it was all useless. Everyone knew how massive damage will be, and deaths will be inevitable. Running away or going to their underground bunkers won't minimize it.
A small arm reaches out into the air, hands trying to point at the flying foreign objects that he had never seen before. "Daddy, what is that?" He asked, his small and innocent voice barely reached his father's ears.
The child's father looked at the missiles for a moment before he hugged his son tightly, holding onto him, trying to keep this son from acknowledging what was about to come.
"Nothing son, it's nothing..."
A missile landed and hit its target and another...and another..., as a huge explosion occurs creating a giant mushroom-shaped cloud that swallows an enormous portion of the land they were programmed to destroy.
Then everything went black...
But is the end, really the end? Or was it another catalyst of a new beginning?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1000 years later...
The sound of a ringing alarm clock breaks the silence accompanied by the distant sound of vehicles rushing by. Slowly, a hand crept and made its way to the bedside table. It tried to reach the ringing alarm clock, but instead of turning it off, it just pushed the thing away from its reach. The alarm clock didn't stop ringing, which frustrated the owner of the hand even more.
"Damn it..."
A 20-year old male, about 5'7" tall, wearing only "blue-green" gradient colored shorts leaving him topless, pushed the bedsheets away from him and sat up. He ruffled his sun-streaked jet black hair with ivory-white bangs on its left side and let out a yawn before his tired chartreuse eyes glanced at the alarm clock. Remembering that he had work to be done today, he sighed in defeat before grabbing the alarm clock and turning it off.
His name is Galvan Ize but most people call him Galv or Mr. Ize for formalities. He finished a triple bachelor's degree in Computer science, Mechanical Engineering, and Electrical Engineering and now he recently opened his new business called the Universal Technical firm near the heart of the city. He lives just a few blocks away from his office so that he can have some time to walk since he barely had enough time and energy to do some morning exercises let alone fix his sleeping schedule.
He looked to the window beside him, and he relaxed as he saw the calming rays of the morning sun and the serene atmosphere of the city.
and that city is called vortex city, also known as the Ocean obelisk...
Vortex city is built atop the skeleton of a submerged city due to a humongous tidal wave created by nuclear explosions. It was one of the first civilizations that were slowly formed after recovering from the destructive war. Science and technology became its backbone as people tried their best to recover most of the fallen city and to save what is left with the environment surrounding it.
Galvan crawled his way out of the bed, placed the alarm clock in his hand back to the bedside table, stood up then stretched his sleepy muscles. He took a look at his room and it's pretty clean and organized just like how he left it last night. Most of the pieces of furniture he has are either invented by him or sometimes a gift from a friend, and by the window, at the other end of the room, he could see his working table with the unfinished blueprint that he was currently working on last night. He barely even clean it up or put away some of the materials since the drowsiness was starting to get to him that night and he barely had enough sleep the day before.
He walked towards the water dispenser and got himself a glass of cold water. He wants to go outside and buy some pancakes for breakfast but after some thought, he sighed to himself. 'When was the last time I went to the grocery store and cook for myself again?'
He made a silent note to himself to pass by the grocery store later after work, but for now, he has to go and buy his breakfast first.
After doing his daily routine for the day, he started to dress up for work. He picks a white button-down dress shirt with his favorite blue-green gradient necktie just like the usual, partnered with black dress pants, blue-green argyle pattern socks, and topsider shoes for the day.
He looked up to the mirror and when he felt satisfied with himself, he grabbed his things and finally headed to the nearest store.
The distance between the convenience store and his house was not long so he decided not to use his car to get some exercise and feel the heat of the morning sun. His hands were kept in the pocket of his jacket as he felt the cool breeze while his eyes wandered around observing the morning routine of the city. The horns of the vehicles were trapped by the slow movement of the traffic blast in the street as the occasional sounds of zooming miniature aircraft above were almost quite unheard. On the corner of his eye, he saw some people wearing ragged clothing and asking for alms while the others are merely ignoring them as they are too busy going to their workplace as time is running out.
Soon, he reached the convenience store and brought some egg and bacon, and proceeds to the cashier to pay. It took a while as the line was a little long and he had to wait for a bit for his turn. The television on the wall just behind him displayed some advertisements that he already knew as a regular, nevertheless, he listened for there is nothing else to do besides waiting.
"Try this new flavor of sundae for only..."
"Get a chance to win 2 VIP tickets to the Crazy Angel's concert if you buy..."
"Flash report: A man was discovered dead with severe bruising in his apartment this morning as the authorities..."
Galvan's left eyebrow went up as he heard the news and did not bother to listen to the rest of it as he paid for his breakfast before leaving. He sighed as he stared at the gray clouds in the sky and said to himself "What a great mood to start the day."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Sorry for the bother, I know you are busy at the moment but we just really needed you to sign this contract of approval for us."
A woman about 30 years of her age, a representative of a company, wearing a white dress suit partnered with a gray coat, black pants, and black high heel shoes, lend Galvan the contract papers before she adjusted her gray framed glasses to the bridge of her nose. Her medium-length shiny black curls that were neatly fixed around her face gave her a youthful look despite her age.
The engineer took a few moments to analyze the papers. His eyes swiftly scanned the whole document before his gaze went back to the woman and said "Oh yes, you are the representative Project Lab right? I'm guessing these papers are for our partnership?"
The woman smiled for a moment before she gave him an affirmative nod "Yes" then Galvan took his time to read the papers once more.
As she waited, she couldn't help but admire how professional Mr. Ize is or how organized he is when it comes to things. Sure, she has met a few people just like him and all of them vary in personalities, but Mr. Ize has all the qualities a woman would like to have in a man, at least her standards so it made her wonder why she had never seen him with a girl before. Maybe because he is too busy for a relationship? Who knows?
Galvan's eyes narrowed and focused on the document once more, checking if he missed anything before he signed the contract papers "Alright...." after that he handed the papers to the woman, stood up, and offered a handshake to the lady "It's a pleasure doing business with you Ms.?"
The woman gladly took the handshake and finished his sentence for him "Mrs. Warner, Sir. It's nice doing business with you too, Mr. Ize."
They exchanged smiles and regards before the lady finally went out of his office with the signed contract in hand. Galvan saw her went inside the parked gray car just across the street before he focused his attention once more on the initial task at hand.
Nowadays, people are focused on developing the technology even more since they want to restore the Earth into its original state or at least make it more habitable, however, they didn't hesitate to restore some of the old vehicles and technologies of the past and this process includes genetic engineering, biotechnology, to reconstructing the ancient infrastructures but, most of those project is still a work in progress. Most of the laboratory companies seek talented people that were focused on innovations which explain the recent business he had with Mrs. Warner.
He looked at his door for a moment, waiting for someone to come by into his office again and he was glad that nobody came. He sighed and said to himself "Good! I won't be able to finish this project if people keep interrupting-" and just before he could finish his sentence, his cellphone rang. "me...." He frowned and threw a tired look at his phone, knowing that he had already used most of his energy to entertaining his clients before he placed the thing against his ear and answered. "Hello?"
"Hello? Is this Mr. Ize? The manager of Denki?"
Knowing that the one on the other end of the line is one of the staff from the entertainment company that he was currently working under as a manager of Denki Sai, he calmed down himself and add a little more formality in his voice as he spoke. "Yes, to whom I am speaking with?"
"This is Mr. Lee, the production manager."
Recognition sparked in his yellow-green eyes "Oh right, Mr. Lee! What can I do for you?"
Mr. Lee answered "I just called to inform you about Denki's new schedule for his performance. His schedule will at 7:00 pm tomorrow so we are hoping that our star is ready because geez the whole web is talking about him. The fans are hyped like for real."
He smiled as he answered "Oh okay, yes I am aware of it. Even my clients are talking about it."
"Clients?"
The engineer flinched as he remembered that he never told them about his other job asides from being a manager of an idol "Y-yes, clients. I have a side job besides being a manager so that I can make use of my time well."
"Alright, we're very sorry for the inconvenience then. We will call you again if we encountered any problems regarding the show which hopefully won't happen."
"Thank you and I will make sure that Denki is fully prepared for his upcoming performance"
Then he heard the long beep at the end of the line, indicating that the call has ended. Sighing, he placed his phone on his desk, thinking about the show. He wasn't expecting that Denki will be able to gain so much attention in a short period of time. He's already grateful that he and Denki got into an entertainment company and was expecting Denki to gain a slow rate of attention after a few shows here and there but he wasn't expecting that people will love him that much considering that there are a lot of performers who started much later than Denki.
Still, he welcomes the challenge.
After finishing his blueprints for one of his clients for today, he closed the office and proceeded to the back office to start building his project as he probably won't have much time tomorrow as he will be preparing for Denki Sai's performance.
Just as he entered the room, his phone buzzed as it received a notification. He picked up his phone that was kept in his pocket and checked if it was anything important. It was from one of his regulars and was asking if another commission can be done within next week. Galvan could only scratch his head in annoyance as continued on his way, making sure that the door was closed behind him and placed down the blueprints on his working table. He sat down and started working immediately, his hands trembling as wrote all his side notes on the blueprint so that he can proceed to gather the material he needed. He doesn't have much time and his stress was building up however, despite the pressure, he smiled in anticipation as the ticking sound of the clock accompanied his bustling atmosphere. "Tomorrow is going to be exciting," he said to himself as he gets to work on his new project.
