Elara’s POV
The black car moved smoothly through the city streets, taking me farther away from everything I had ever known. My single suitcase and backpack sat beside me like sad reminders of how small my life had been I kept my hands clasped tightly in my lap to stop them from shaking.
I had made the call.
I had already said yes.
Alexander Stone’s voice had been calm and satisfied when I told him I accepted his offer. “Good girl,” he had said, and those two words had sent an unwelcome flutter through my stomach. Now, just hours later, I was sitting in his car, heading toward a future I couldn’t even begin to imagine.
The city lights gradually faded as we climbed into the hills. Expensive houses gave way to sprawling estates hidden behind high walls and iron gates, my pulse quickened with every mile What have I done? I had handed myself over to a man I barely knew a man who radiated danger and control
.
The car finally slowed in front of two massive iron gates. They swung open silently, as if they had been waiting for me the driveway wound through perfectly manicured grounds before revealing the mansion itself.
It was breathtaking.
Modern lines of glass and dark stone rose elegantly into the night sky, bathed in soft golden lighting, Beautiful, Intimidating.
The driver opened my door, “Mr. Stone is waiting for you.”
I stepped out on shaky legs, the cool night air raising goosebumps on my arms. Alexander stood at the top of the wide stone steps, hands in his pockets, watching me with that same intense focus from the bookstore he looked even more commanding here, in his own territory.
“Elara,” he said, his deep voice carrying easily through the quiet night. “Welcome home.”
Home. The word sent a strange mix of warmth and fear through me.
I walked up the steps, clutching the strap of my backpack. When I reached him, he studied me for a long moment, eyes tracing over my simple sundress and nervous expression.
“You’re trembling,” he observed quietly.
“I’m… a little overwhelmed,” I admitted.
His hand came to rest on the small of my back gentle but undeniably possessive as he guided me inside. The moment we crossed the threshold, the heavy doors closed behind us with a soft, final click.
The interior was even more stunning than I expected. High ceilings, warm lighting, expensive art on the walls, and the faint scent of leather and sandalwood. Everything screamed wealth and power.
Alexander gave me a slow tour, the living areas were spacious and modern. A gourmet kitchen that looked barely used a home gym, Multiple sitting rooms. Then he led me upstairs.
“This is the master suite,” he said, opening a set of double doors.
My breath caught. The room was massive a huge king-sized bed dominated the center with dark, luxurious sheets. Floor-to-ceiling windows overlooked the dark hills. One entire wall held built-in bookshelves filled with what looked like rare volumes.
But there was only one bed.
Alexander watched my reaction carefully. “You’ll sleep here. With me.”
I turned to him, heart racing. “I thought… I thought I would have my own room.”
“You do,” he replied smoothly. “It’s connected to mine but you will sleep in my bed every night, for your safety… and because I want you close.”
The casual way he said it made heat rush to my face. I should have argued, I should have demanded my own space. Instead, I found myself nodding, too overwhelmed to fight.
He stepped closer, towering over me.
“There are rules, Elara. You do not leave the grounds without my permission. You wear what I choose for you, You never lie to me, and you will tell me what you’re thinking and feeling at all times. Do you understand?”
I swallowed hard. “Yes.”
His fingers brushed my cheek, surprisingly gentle. “Good girl. I know this is a lot but you’re safe here. Safer than you’ve ever been.”
He showed me the walk-in closet where some new clothes already hung elegant pieces far more expensive than anything I had ever owned. He handed me one of his black dress shirts.
“Wear this to sleep tonight,” he said. “Your other clothes can be unpacked tomorrow.”
I changed in the luxurious bathroom, my hands shaking as I buttoned his shirt over my body. The fabric was soft and carried his scent. It fell to mid-thigh, making me feel both vulnerable and strangely desired.
When I stepped back into the bedroom, Alexander was already there, wearing only black pajama pants. His torso was powerful, marked with faint scars and dark ink. He looked every bit the dangerous man I suspected he was.
He pulled back the covers. “Come to bed.”
I climbed in, heart hammering. He slid in beside me but stayed on top of the covers, giving me space. Still, the heat of his body radiated toward me. The silence stretched between us, thick with tension.
After several minutes, I whispered, “Why are you doing all this for me?”
Alexander turned his head to look at me. His eyes were dark in the low light.
“Because from the moment I saw you, I knew you belonged to me,” he said quietly. “And I take care of what’s mine.”
My breath caught. I didn’t know how to respond to that part of me was terrified another part a darker, secret part felt seen in a way I had never experienced before.
I turned onto my side, facing away from him, trying to calm my racing thoughts. But sleep didn’t come easily.
Every breath reminded me of how close he was. Every shift of the mattress made me hyper-aware of the powerful man lying just inches away.
And deep down, I knew my life had changed forever the moment those iron gates had closed behind me.
