Zoe's POV. "I am getting married." My mum informed me with a smile as she showed off her 30 carat, diamond ring. That didn't bother me, it was what she just said. "You are what?" I half-yelled, my lips parting in shock as I stared at her whirling around the room like a highschool girl whose crush just asked her out for prom. "That's impossible." I added and Mum paused, frowning at me. "And why do you say so? Am I too old to get married?" Mum asked as she placed her hand on her waist, like some model posing for a magazine. Words got stuck into my throat as I stared at her beautiful face, without blemish and her clean skin. If a stranger walked right in now, they would think she was my sister and not my mother. She looked that young even though she was already entering her 50s. "Nope. It's just that, shouldn't you be enjoying vacations at this point in life, rather than getting married, again?" I questioned and she rolled her eyes. She knew I was right but wouldn't admit it. I mean this was her third time of wanting to get married. The first was Dad, her mate who sadly passed away in an accident. Mum was so devastated that I had to beg her to move on, then the second was a man ( Marcus) who pretended to be rich to rip mum off, of our wealth. Plan backfired though, because I got involved. The guy was sketchy and the third person was moongoddess knows who now. "It's real this time, Zoe. I fell in love." Mum collapsed on the sofa with a moan as if reminiscing some moments I obviously did not to have an idea about. "That's what you said about your ex who is now in jail for trying to swindle you." I reminded her Incase she had forgotten. "Mum, these guys are just after your beauty and wealth." I told her and she chuckled, waving me off with her hand. "Nope. This dude is different. He is not only f*****g handsome and famous, but also filthy rich, a perfect match for me." Mum arranged her hair and I furrowed my brows at her in confusion, obviously not convinced. "And who is this person?" I folded my arms across my chest with a sigh. "Killian Whitmore." Mum answered and I froze, widening my eyes slightly. 'Did she just say what I thought she said?' I pondered as I stared at her, unblinking. "Which Killian Whitmore?" I tried to keep my voice steady and she looked at me like I had grown two heads. "How many Killian Whitmore exists in this country?" Mum threw back the question at me and I felt a huge lump forming in my throat. It couldn't be. "You can't marry him, mum. Anyone but him." I half-yelled and the smile vanished from her eyes. "Why?" She inquired and I walked to sit on the couch, trying to keep my legs from wobbling. I didn't answer her and she placed a hand on her face. "Don't tell me, it's what I am thinking. I would not accept it." Mum raised her voice and I turned to look at her. "Yes it is. You can't get married to the Whitmores. You of all people, know what his son did to me." I yelled. "Calm down Zoe. That's all in the past. I thought you have moved on." Mum moved closer, trying to take my hand in hers but I snatched it back. "I have but I have no plans of reopening such wounds." I told her and she let out a weary sigh. "Don't you want me to be happy?" She asked and I held back a scoff. "Killian's son isn't in the country and is probably never returning, you are not staying with me once I get married so you will barely even see Killian, talkmore of his son so why are you refusing this?" Mum stood up from the coach and I laughed bitterly. "Why can't you sacrifice this for me? This guy hurt me and his father, who is an Alpha did nothing." I dug my nails into my palm as memories of those horrible events flashed through my mind. I shut my eyes tightly to seal them out. "Because he had no idea of what was going. You guys were in highschool remember? This man was barely even in the country when this happened and why do you think he sent his son to the states when he returned?" Mum paced the room and I tried to keep my breath steady. "I love this man, Zoe. Do not deny me of him. You know I would do anything for you but this, I can't forgo." Mum shook her head sideways, sitting back on the couch. She was right though. I shouldn't deny her of the man she loved because he had an asshole for a son. Besides, we would obviously never cross paths so why stop the marriage? This woman has done everything to make me happy and was more devastated by anyone else when such a terrible event befell me but it was all years ago now. It was time to forget but I would certainly not forgive. Perhaps I should use this opportunity to get revenge if we do ever cross paths. "Does he love you the way you do? Hope he isn't another Marcus?" I smiled weakly, even though my heart was burning. Was it from pain or betrayal? I knew it was a small world but why did mum have to fall in love with the same blood and flesh as that monster? Why? "Ofcourse. I believe he loves me more." Mum winked, gathering me into her arms. "Then I have no choice but to accept." I rested my head on her chest as she stroked my hair gently. "Thank you baby." She pecked me on my forehead and I shut my eyes. ....... ....... "Dig her head deeper, Shane." I heard his familiar voice and trembled as my head was pushed into the pool, water filling my nostrils. I kicked, struggling to get out as water clouded my vision, my heart beating from fear as I felt my trousers being unbuttoned. 'No, no. Please.' I cried as I struggled to breathe, my eyelids going heavy as I could hear the sounds of cameras flashing. "I have gotten a nice shot." Grey, another one of his gang member laughed as Shane pulled my head from the pool. I coughed badly, my throat itching as my skin burned from the rashes I had gotten from the pool. I was probably allergic to the water treatment used. "This is what you get for trying to go against him." I watched from my blurry vision as the side of Shane's lips curled into a smirk. I shivered, the cold breeze blowing with fierce intensity. My legs felt weak and I tried talking but no words came out. They were mistaken. I didn't do it. Just then, Shane dragged me to the edge of the pool and then kicked me into the water. "Nooooooooooo." I screamed as I rose of the bed, sweating profusely and breathing heavily as I placed my hand on my chest to calm my racing heart. "Thank God, it was all a dream." I breathed out a sigh of relief as I covered my entire body with the duvet, as if to shield me from the unknown. My alarm on the nightstand began to ring and I looked out of the window to notice it was Dawn. I switched off the alarm, remembering it was mum's wedding today. And instead of a private ceremony, it was going to be a really grand one and mum wanted me to be early at the event so we could take so many pictures for memories. Too bad it wasn't going to be a happy one but one thing was certain, that bastard wasn't attending the wedding. I have met Alpha Whitmore and he seemed to be a nice man, he even apologized for what his son did. Perhaps mum told him or he knew before? I had no idea but he promised to ban his son from the event. I thought that was harsh though, even if it was for my benefit but it seemed Mr. Whitmore didn't get along with his son. As I dressed up for the event, my phone pinged with a text message from Teresa, my best friend from the United Kingdoms. We met while I was doing college there and has been close ever since. Though I was unable to attend her wedding because I came back to New York for mum's second wedding but she didn't seem to mind. Rather, she and her husband were moving to New York for a fresh start. "We are in town." I read out loud and smiled, as I drove out of my apartment, reminding myself to call her later. "You are late." Mum pouted immediately she saw me and dragged me to take pictures. She looked so gorgeous and everywhere screamed wealth. I took with her till I almost collapsed from fatigue but as we were rounding up, I caught a familiar back and walked up to it. "Teresa?" I called out in disbelief and the black-haired turned to face me. Her jaw dropped as she squeaked and dragged me for a hug. "Zoe, what are you doing here?" She squealed and I laughed. "Was about to ask you the same, wh...?" I was still saying when the remaining words vanished as I saw my greatest nightmare walking towards us, with a grin dancing on his lips. Saliva gathered in my mouth and I gulped them down. 'But mum and her husband promised he wouldn't be here.' I thought as I took a step backwards unconsciously, causing Teresa to blink repeatedly at me. "You okay?" She was about to move closer when he grabbed her by the wrist. "Oh baby!" She smiled and my blood ran cold. Baby? What was going on?
