Lyras's POV
My heart shattered hearing him address me a wolfless Luna. It's the truth, but I don't have to hear it from him, especially if he sounds like he's making fun of me.
Kael stood up and quickly put on his shirt. I was left there seated on the floor naked, feeling embarrassed and naked. I shunned away the thoughts in my head. Maybe I'm just overthinking things, and he doesn't mean it in that manner.
“What do you mean Kael? Aren't we mate? It's the right thing to do, especially after what just happened, right?” I asked him, and he chuckled.
“So you think because we just had s*x, I'm supposed to mark you and make you my Luna?” His voice carried a hint of irritation, and I didn't know how to react to how he just spoke to me.
Wasn't he being sweet to me now? Why the hell is he behaving in this manner now?
“I don't understand what you mean.” I said, refusing to believe the worst of the situation.
“I can't have a wolfless Luna rule beside me, I will be the laughing stock of the alpha council. Everyone will point fingers and make fun of me. What in the world was going through your head when you asked that silly question?” He chuckled, and I my eyes stung with tears.
I clenched my fist in anger, but I quickly controlled myself. It's already bad enough that I'm being mocked for being wolfless. If he sees me crying, then that will be the end of me.
“I really can't believe the way you are treating me, Kael. I'm your mate.” I said, and he rolled his eyes.
“Hmmm… unfortunately.” He answered, and my eyes widened in shock.
“What!” I exclaimed, and he turned to me.
“Enough…. Just put on your dress and go home. We will talk some other time.” He shunned me off and walked away from me.
“Kael… Kael…” I yelled after him, tears streaming down my eyes, but he didn't say anything in response. He just left.
I felt my heart rip into pieces. I have never been this hurt in my life. Not even my brothers bully and mock me. This hurt hits differently. I clamped my knees together and brought it to my face.
Hot tears poured down my face, and I didn't bother stopping it. Why did he treat me in such a ruthless manner.
We just made love, and I thought for a second that my life was finally taking shape. But I was only dreaming. Some minutes later, I felt lighter and foggy. I collected myself and headed back home.
I put on my dress but couldn't help but feel sore all over, especially in between my legs. I limped out of the woods and made it home.
The next morning, I woke up to the sun shining on my face. I groaned and rolled over, I grabbed one of the pillows and used it in covering my head.
“Lyra please wake up. Now is not the time to sleep all day.” I heard my mother's voice and frowned. It's very unlikely for my mother to wake me up in the morning.
Something seems to be up, I could tell from the sound of her voice. But I didn't care, I need all the sleep I can get. It feels like I've been running over to a truck.
“Mom leave me alone.” I almost yelled at her.
“The alpha is at the pack assembly and has asked for everyone in the pack to join him. Your father and brothers are already at there waiting. We can’t miss whatever announcement the alpha has.” My mother explained, and I jolted up with my eyes wide open.
“Kael has an announcement?” I asked my mother, and she frowned. She must be surprised that I'm calling him by his name.
I didn't bother waiting for a response. I jumped out of bed and headed to the bathroom. I took a warm bath to relieve me of the soreness that I feel all over my body.
I was done quickly and scurried through my wardrobe for a beautiful outfit. I wore a pink floral gown. I looked in the mirror and smiled at how beautiful I looked.
I packed my hair in a neat ponytail style and added some clips. I loved the look and heaved a deep sigh. I hope what's happening is what I think it is.
My stomach tightened into a knot from excitement, and I ran out of my room giggling like a little child.
“I'm ready mother…” I said to her, and we both left for the pack assembly.
The minute we stepped into the pack assembly, my eyes fell on Kael, and he was looking at me too. It was as though I'm the one I had been waiting for. I could feel it in my guts.
My father, who was sitting at the council section at the front, glared at me, but I didn't care. I left my mother's side and walked towards the alpha.
“What is she doing?” I heard one of the pack members asked. In a moment, the hall turned into a frenzy with indistinct chatters, murmurs, and gossip filling the room.
I stood in front of him and then bowed my head up. I brought my head up, and he was smiling at me. I didn't know why, but I was instantly filled with hope.
I'm sure he had a change of mind and has decided to follow tradition. But I don't know why he's doing it in front of everyone.
“Kael…” I called, and everyone gasped.
“Lyra!!” My father yelled and stamped his feet on the floor.
Some of the guards came rushing at me with their weapons, and I flinched in fear.
“It's fine…” Kael waved his hand at them and stood up. Everyone bowed their head as he walked down from his seat. He stood before me and held my hand.
“It's perfectly fine for my mate to address me by name, isn't it?” Kael asked, and everywhere went silent like a graveyard. Then suddenly there was an uproar.
“Lyra?” I heard my father call for me softly. I looked over at him, and he was beaming with pride. My brothers looked shocked, my mother had tears in her eyes, and the pack members were throwing daggers at me with their eyes.
“Lyra is my mate but…. I can never accept her as my Luna.” Kael declared.
