Three days had passed since Elena left the Vale mansion.
She had barely slept.
Every time she closed her eyes, she remembered Adrian's expression.
The disappointment in his eyes.
The coldness in his voice.
And most painfully, the fact that he never stopped her from leaving.
Maybe this was truly the end.
Elena sat on the edge of her bed, staring blankly at the floor.
For the past two mornings, she had woken up feeling strangely sick. At first, she blamed it on stress. She hadn't been eating properly, and she had barely slept since the night she left.
But that morning, the smell of coffee from the kitchen made her stomach turn.
She rushed to the bathroom.
After several minutes, she slowly stood in front of the mirror.
Her face looked pale.
“What is wrong with me?”
Her eyes fell to the calendar hanging beside the mirror.
She froze.
She counted the days again.
Then again.
Her period was late.
Very late.
“No…”
Her heart began to pound.
She knew it was possible.
But she didn't want to believe it.
Not now.
Not after everything that had happened with Adrian.
Still, Elena found herself walking into a small pharmacy later that afternoon.
She bought a pregnancy test and hurried home before anyone could see her.
For several minutes, she simply stared at the box on the bathroom counter.
Her hands were shaking.
Finally, she took the test.
Then she waited.
The silence felt unbearable.
When she finally looked down, her breath caught.
Two lines.
Elena's eyes widened.
“No…”
She sat down on the bathroom floor, staring at the test as tears slowly filled her eyes.
She was pregnant.
Adrian's baby.
A thousand thoughts rushed through her mind.
Should she tell him?
Should she go back?
Would he believe her?
Would he even want the baby?
Her fingers moved instinctively to her stomach, even though there was nothing to feel yet.
A broken smile appeared on her lips.
“I'm sorry,” she whispered.
She didn't know whether she was apologizing to Adrian or to the tiny life growing inside her.
Maybe both.
That evening, Elena took out her phone.
Adrian's name was still at the top of her messages.
Her thumb hovered over his name.
She could simply call him.
Tell him everything.
But then she remembered the way he had looked at her.
The way he had let her walk away.
Her courage disappeared.
She locked the phone.
“I'll tell you someday,” she whispered.
But deep inside, Elena already knew what she was going to do.
She would leave the city.
She would raise her child on her own.
And she would never allow her baby to grow up feeling unwanted.
What Elena didn't know was that, at that exact moment, Adrian was sitting alone in his office, staring at the last message she had sent him.
I'm sorry. Take care of yourself.
He had read it dozens of times.
And every time, his heart hurts a little more.
Neither of them knew that the distance between them was about to become much greater.
Because Elena was carrying a secret that would change both their lives forever.
