Chapter eight - You need to slow down

Adam's POV:

Jasmine might be the best decision I have ever made. The only issue I have with her is that she works too fast. I don't mind this, but not everyone can catch her speed. I don't know what her previous job used to be, but here we don't work this way. I will have a conversation with her. Even if she finishes faster, I won't let her go home earlier. It's not like she asked for this. This girl does whatever I tell her. She is helping my assistant every day. I had lunch with her. I only wanted to know what she thought about the new employee. Just like me, she was impressed. Jasmine might not have any experience here, but she is learning quickly. That is one of the things I liked about her. She is full of surprises. I'm afraid that there is a not-so-happy story behind her excellent work. I'm a bit curious, but I'll never ask her. It's not my business. Also, she might get offended. I have to start planning the event. I do it so my employees can go out without working. It's for everyone who works for me. Of course, my parents are always invited. Dad helped me a lot with the business. Mom was supporting me all the time. I'm glad that we are so close. They haven't met the new employee yet, so this is their chance. I already know what my mom will say about this. I hope that this time, she won't talk that much.

It has been two weeks since I hired Jasmine. I won't lie. We started working faster, thanks to her. It's great that she is helping everyone. She needs to slow down a bit. Not everyone can catch up to her level. Here, we don't serve food. There is no need for her to rush that much. I tried to hint at it, but I don't think she understood me. We'll have a conversation about this. She can't continue working like that. I like that she is so enthusiastic. It's visible how much she wanted to have this job.

I came to my office an hour ago. The mail was already sorted and put into the system. Jasmine was helping Carla. I can give her a position, but what she does is better. I went to finish my work for the day. I'll have lunch with this girl. For some reason, I wanted to know more about her. She is an employee, and I shouldn't care that much about her personal life. Well, part of me wants to know. When the time came, I took her with me. She looked confused, but I explained everything on the way to the restaurant.

- Now you understand why you are here.

- Yes, I do. I thought I had done something wrong.

- I don't think it's possible for you. - I said, and she laughed

- Thanks. It means a lot. I'm trying to show you that you didn't make the wrong decision.

- I already know that. I have asked my employees what they think about you. If you keep doing the same work, I might offer you a full-time job.

- I would love that.

- How was your weekend? You probably went out.

- Yes, I was outside for some time. Later, I did some work.

- Is everything ok? Did I say something?

- No, no. Everything is fine. Don't worry.

- You know. I liked your enthusiasm when you came.

- Really? For the past few years, I have been trying to be the best version of myself.

- I don't think you can be better.

- Being a good role model is something rare.

- Everyone. There is so much negativity around the world.

- I'm trying to ignore the laughs and the comments.

- For a company's boss, you are not mean or flexing with your money.

- I don't need to do it. Money is not everything. I live alone, and my expenses are not that big.

- I thought you were living with someone. My bad.

- Mom tried to help me, but it wasn't helpful at all. It was the worst experience of my life. What about you?

- I don't have time for this because I have other priorities. Dating is not in my current plans.

- Have you planned it in the future?

- I haven't thought about this. Many things can go wrong. I have tried before. The moment I reveal parts of my life, they leave. Not everyone is ready for a serious relationship. I don't have time for games.

I can listen to this girl talking all day. Maybe it's the fact that she is close to my age, but we understand each other well. Jasmine is only an employee, but I like her. She was clear about the dating. I wonder what is stopping her. I don't believe her job is a priority. There is something else, but I won't ask. It might be something that I won't like. In the afternoon, I have another meeting. We have the design for the second version of one of our collections. I called Jasmine to sit and listen to what we do.

- We have the designs. Right? - I asked

- Yes, sir. They are here. - Cassie said

- I'll check them after the meeting. We need different PR boxes. Ideas?

- We can use the colors of our products. It worked well the last time.

- Good. We need something else.

- I know I'm not part of the team, but can I say something? - Jasmine asked

- Sure. I'm listening.

- I have seen creators getting handwritten notes with their PR. We can do that.

- I like it, but do you know how many creators we have?

- Well, I can take care of this. Print the company's logo on a thicker paper. It's something like cardboard.

- If you do this, I don't mind. Everyone else is busy with tasks.

- You don't have to do it if you don't want to.

- She is right, sir. I have seen companies doing it. - Ben said

- Alright then. We can do this and see how it goes.

- Should we send one of each product or only the essentials? - Cassie asked

- Let's send the whole collection. Jasmine, think about what you will write on these notes.

- I'll write a few samples and give them to you for review. Is that ok?

- Perfect.

Jasmine looks like the perfect employee. That is the scary thing. It's too good to be true. Maybe there is a reason why all this is happening. When the meeting ended, I went back to my office. I keep receiving offers for collaboration. I don't mind it, but this is a solo business. Also, I want to offer the customers something they will like. The monetary offer is excellent, but I don't want it to look like I am doing it only because of this. After an hour, I had a knock on my door. It was Jasmine. Don't tell me she already finished.

- Yes? Come in.

- I'm ready with the samples. I wrote five different notes. I didn't know which one was better. I liked all of them. I'll try to write more if you think they aren't good.

- Can I read them first? - I asked, chuckling

- Yes, sure. Here you go.

- Let's see. You have beautiful handwriting.

- Oh, thanks.

- Honestly, I think all the samples are good. Well, I like this one a bit more.

- How many people are on the PR list? I can finish the notes today.

- First, we need to make the cards. Go and find Brianna. She can help you with this. If she is not in her office, ask Carla.

- Is there anything else you want me to do?

- For now, no. If the notes are successful, you will write them from now on.

- No problem, sir. I'll do whatever you tell me.

- It's good to hear it. Can I tell you something? Hopefully, you won't get offended.

- Don't worry. I have heard many things about myself.

- You need to slow down a little bit and enjoy the moment while you are doing something. I'm sure you have missed many things.

- Sometimes, I did.

- I think it will be better for you. Don't feel ashamed to ask for help. If you feel more comfortable with me, I'll always do it.

That is not an ambition anymore. I believe something has happened. I would love to ask Jasmine, but I can't. It's better if I focus on my work. I offered to take her home because she was going in my direction. It won't happen today. I have dinner with my mom. Dad said he would go out with his friends. I decided to take my mom. She won't be alone. I only went home to get changed. Mom was already there when I arrived. I'm sure she will start with the questions.

- Hey, mom. Did you wait too long?

- No, I came around fifteen minutes ago.

- Good.

- What would you like to order?

- I want chicken with vegetables and a bottle of water. Mom?

- For me. Beef with a cup of red wine.

- Is there anything else?

- No, thanks.

- I'll be back. - the waiter said and left

- I haven't seen you drink in a while.

- Your dad is gone. I can take advantage of this. How was your day?

- It was good.

- Is the new employee doing well?

- Yes. She is great. I like having such people in my company.

- Why do I feel like there is a bit of interest?

- Maybe. I feel like she is hiding something. Not hiding, but not sharing.

- Not everyone likes to talk about their personal life. She doesn't know you.

- True. I have noticed that she works a lot. It's like she is trying to finish everything the fastest way possible.

- You don't know how she was treated in her previous job.

- She told me there were ungrateful customers.

- See? The girl needs time to understand how things work with you.

- Probably. I'm not pressuring her for anything.

- You shouldn't do it. No one knows what is going on at home. She might be stressed out.

- I can't ask. I don't want her to think that I want something from her.

- Have you ever talked with her? You won't find out until you don't do it.

- I'll let her get used to the job. I plan to invite her to the event.

- Since she is part of the company, she should come.

I know my mom wants me to find a girlfriend. It's not like I don't, but not in the same way as her. I'm happy with my own company. I need more time for this. As people say, good things take time. The priority is my job. That might change after some time. I can't predict the future. Maybe it's better if I don't know. I will focus on my work and my life. It's not like Jasmine got my interest. Even if I know more about her life, I can't help her. She has to deal with this alone. There are some things only she can do. Mom keeps telling me this. I hope that Jasmine feels good in my company.
