The corridor was old and dusty. Candles dripped milky whiteness onto dark pillars of stone. I had been here once before. Wind howled though the dungeon and I shivered. Pain dully thumped inside my heart. I knew what he was doing. I knew who he was with, but I couldn’t stop myself from seeing. I had to confront him this time. I slowly approached a door. I could feel his presence behind it. I could hear their low murmurs. Edging closer I pressed my ear to the door to listen.
“Baby, everything will be alright. I’ll get rid of that b***h Sophie and free you from this prison.” I could hear sobbing. “You were right. She tricked me. She used her magic against me, and I almost lost you. Can you forgive me?”
