Muttering to himself, Tyler leaned up against a smooth boulder and reached into his bag to find the last of his food. A can of sardines. He read the faded label, the nutrition facts, the barcode, anything and everything to prolong the inevitable, before finally cracking it open. Slick fish oil spilled out over his hands before dripping to the ground. He tasted the oil and immediately gagged. As he wretched and started to spit out the salty flavor, the heat hit him and it was getting hotter, like someone had opened an oven right behind him. He slowly turned around to see it about fifty yards away. Tyler got his first real good look at the creature. It had six legs and used them to move swiftly like a wolf when chasing down prey.
