“Sit,” her father commanded, gesturing to a chair in front of his desk. “I’ll stand,” Leah replied, her tone firm. Her father’s jaw tightened. “You come into my house after years of silence, accusing me of lies and betrayal. You’ve become bold, Leah, but don’t forget who you’re speaking to.” “I haven’t forgotten,” Leah said coldly. “You’re the man who turned my life into a nightmare after Mother died. The man who married Cindy and allowed her to treat me like a servant. The man who sold off my future without a second thought.” Her father’s eyes narrowed. “You always were dramatic. I did what was necessary for this family. Cindy brought stability, and I gave you a roof over your head. You should be grateful.” “Grateful?” Leah’s voice rose, the calm veneer cracking. “For being locked in the storeroom? For being robbed of my dreams? For losing my mother without a single answer?” His expression darkened. “Your mother’s death was unfortunate, but it was natural. You were too young to understand—” “Don’t patronize me!” Leah snapped. “I may have been young, but I wasn’t blind. She was fine one day and gone the next, and you never gave me a straight answer. I’ve spent years piecing it together, and I know there’s more to the story.” Her father’s fists clenched on the desk. “You’re treading dangerous ground, Leah. Let the past stay buried.” Leah stepped closer, her voice low and unwavering. “I’m done living in fear, Father. I want the truth, and I’ll find it—with or without your help.” For a moment, they stared each other down, the air thick with tension. Finally, her father spoke, his voice like steel. “You won’t find what you’re looking for, Leah. And if you continue down this path, you’ll regret it.” Leah met his gaze, her resolve unshaken. “We’ll see about that.” She turned on her heel and walked out, leaving her father alone in the suffocating silence of his study
