Epilogue: One Year From The Accident

~

   My whole body was in a world of pain. I couldn’t even move one bone in my body without crying out in pain. 

   “June?” The voice of my mom takes my attention off the pain. 

   “Yeah Mom?” Even my throat hurt whenever I tried to speak. 

   “Mia’s here. She’d like to talk to you.” Mia. I haven’t seen her in a long time. 

   “Sure. Bring her on in.” I reach for my cane, beside me, like it should be. 

   “Hey June…” Mia’s voice makes me turn to wherever it may be. 

   “Hey.” I reach a hand out for her. She takes it in her hand, pulls me to her. I grit my teeth from the pain, but I let it slide at the moment. 

   “I’m so glad you’re okay.” 

   “Barely.” Mia laughs softly. It was a great sound to hear.
