“Tell me about your parents?” Murphy asked after almost ten minutes of silence. “Not much more to tell. They were con artists, terrible parents, and two of the most selfish people I’ve ever met.” Remus didn’t hate his parents—not anymore. He pitied them now, when he spared them a thought. Murphy grunted, turning to look out his window. “I watched them a little at the trial. At first it didn’t bother me—how supportive they were of Romulus. He’s their son, but as the trial went on and they heard what he’d done, and it became more and more clear he was guilty…I couldn’t.” Murphy let out a harsh breath—maybe frustration, maybe anger, probably both. “It made me sick.” “Understandable,” Remus mumbled in reply.
