Hi-e-yah, Oliver!
And the last one before me, the so called boy that lead on the rest the others. Oliver "the Taekwondo King" of the family. Pretty cheesy if you ask me. I'm in gym with the rest of my brothers and Zooey. The West twins waited patiently on the bleachers for Raleigh. She hasn't come back from the locker rooms in over fifteen minutes. Class started fifteen minutes ago. Gabe dribbled the basketball harder every time a minute went by. Beverly volunteered to go back to the locker rooms to get her but Justin, Logan and I disagreed with her. Breanna Asher, the captain of the "Miracle Queens" cheerleading squad practiced her cheers with the rest of the group. Aiden dated her for a good few years until, he caught her rummaging through his belongings. She was a bit uptight about other girls in the school leaving him secret admirer notes on his desk and in and out of his locker. Fewer of my brothers—Gabe and Dylan—liked her until that incident. Now we just look at her like she's a blob of slime. Raleigh doesn't like her and she never did; Brea short for Breanna, and Raleigh's been nemeses since pre-K. And Raleigh was even a Permanent Borrower member at the time, and when she had a problem with Breanna, it was Gabe to the rescue and then he introduced her to Permanently Borrowing but she wasn't as good then, how she is now. Oh, who am I kidding? Raleigh was freaking brilliant at it by the time she stepped foot into second grade.
"I'm going after her," Beverly called out getting up from the bleachers but Justin and Logan pulled her down in her seat, shaking their heads.
"I think it's better if we just wait for her," I said looking over at the pretty concerned face of Beverly Jane West. "I don't want you walking up in there uninvited, again." Last time Eve went after Raleigh was in middle school and she tricked one of the guys to take her to the Freaky Friday Festival and when Rale's found out she chased her around the entire festival causing over a thousand dollars worth of damage. In the aftermath, Beverly owned a twisted ankle, a busted lip, and a broken arm, followed by some hair replacements.
"Good point," she said and sat back down next to Justin. It wasn't a minute when she walked out of the locker rooms with her cell phone to her ear and she looked angry. She hollered over the phone causing attention. I looked at Justin who looked at Raleigh with a deadpan expression. Well, at least he knows not to mess with Raleigh while she's in a rusty mood. He only attacks her when she grabs something that'll kill or hurt someone.
"Well, who gave him the permission to do that?!" Raleigh called out through her phone. We looked at each other and then back to her and she was starting to get annoyed. Whoever was annoying her, better ask her for forgiveness because my dear sweet sister is not gonna forget this Moment. "No! Tell them that I'm going to make nail polish out of their blood... You son of a t**t! Mother-facing ass-head piece of d**k, you mother-douche s**t bag!" Our jaws dropped and Beverly's head shot up from her phone and her eyes landing on her twin brother's girlfriend.
"Man, your little sister has a way with words," Lillian Barr called out at me from across the gym room. Giving her a "I know" look, I listened to Raleigh's anger argument.
"I don't think that's your shirt's fault; you may wanna lose a few pounds. Salmon’s not your color, Mr. Potbelly," Raleigh says making Ivan and the twins look at each other with dropped jaws. Oh my god, she's talking about one of the members that'd be incharge of the parties in school, Michael Posley.
"Tell that butt smelling dog, that a Burkes sister said "to treat it like a red balloon" maybe even get in the gym for a while."
"Rales!" I called out her name. She looked up at me, with a angry look painted on her face, and I swear I could've seen a snare come across her face. "Sour drops, not lemon!"
"Sour drops and lemon can kiss my ass!" She called back and turned back to her phone. Justin and Beverly exhaled and pulled their cellphone's out from their jacket pocket and started to text.
Yup, she's angry, and not the motherland angry. She's pissed off angry. My brothers and I looked at Justin who eyeballed his lover. His mouth shaped in "O" shape and he was just as shocked at the rest of us were. Gym teacher, Mrs. Maybell knew better not to talk to Raleigh when she's in this state. Gabe elbowed Justin who didn't blink or move a muscle, he just stared at Raleigh as she screamed and hollered through the phone. Beverly wanted to jump up and pull Raleigh away from her phone but we all know that could only end worst than what she did in middle school.
"Sure, I'll make sure that I tell them," she says in a sweet tone that even I'm sure we all know isn't a "happy, and we good" tone. Raleigh hung up her phone and put it in her pocket and walked over to the Sport Stand and grabbed a cracked and rusted bat from it. I'm sure the entire gym class gulped, even Mrs. Maybell.
"Heading out?" Logan asks Raleigh, watching the bat which Raleigh is taking a practice hit with, cleanly striking the air with the bat in one hand.
"Yeah," Raleigh answers, her voice low. I'm standing 20-feet away from her and I'm nervous. I know for a fact, that Rale's would never hurt me. I'm her only sister and she's mines and if anything were to happen to one of us, we'd go crazy.
"You'll be back in time though, right?" Aaron says. We looked at him, with raised eyebrows; honestly, I don't think that should be anybody's main concern.
"Sure," Raleigh responds plainly. Then she spins the bat and shoulders it. "I've just got to go put down a dog first." And then she walks out, the bat resting cooly on her shoulder. The doors to the gymnasium slams shut making half of the entire class jump.
Five minutes later, we stared at the door, like she was going to come barging in dragging a body with her. We could only hear the ticking of the clock and the beeping and buzzing of people's phones going off. Gabe scooped at himself and shook and head and leaned back on the bleacher seat behind him and placed his hands behind his head.
"Okay, ladies and gents!" Mrs. Maybell said breaking the long and awkward silence between us. "We all know about the future game coming in the Fall, so let's get ready for practice." The cheerleaders and the basketball players cheered and a 10th grader was the first to throw the ball at a 9th grader and the cheerleading co-captain LeeLee Barr was the first to throw the punch. Lilly takes over when Brea's absent and when Brea's absent, Lilly puts in a little to much effort.
"Let's go Romans, let's go! Chick Coach. The Romans have a chick Coach," Lilly sang, happily but nervously waving her pom-poms in the air, her long curly brunette hair full of shine and moisture. Her hair shined so much that the sunlight bounced off of it blinding half of the basketball team. Just kidding. The rest of the cheerleaders danced and sang like they were in a choir and Liilian singing in the lead. The red-headed annoying chick from Germany, Liilian Masterlynn, that's LeeLee-in, repeated the chorus after Lillian Barr. They sounded a-okay, but Aaron, Gabe, and me and Raleigh are the real talented when it comes to singing. Maybell, the GT, gym teacher, called Gabe and Aaron to the other side of the gym room, where the Fire Cupid's played tossing ball to each other. Maybell Valentine, a blonde 12th grader, tossed Gabe the ball and caught it and dribbled it down the room.
I sat next to Zooey and Beverly slid her way over next to me, her eyes still focused on the doors of the gymnasium. "Come on, Romans!" I called out. "I've seen babies dance better than you!" Half of the entire class turned their attention to me, which I'm sure they'd say the exact same thing.
"The rest of you kids get down here and grab a team, I'm not passing you to sit around and look pretty!" Mrs. Maybell called out at us. You're not passing us at all, I thought to myself the same time Logan repeated my words.
"You're not passing us at all," Logan said and pushed himself up from the bleachers. She only wants up to play because she wants to look presentable just in case Principal "Con-artist" Kael Loves walks in with one of his random people from the school board. Ivan gave me a ball and paired me up with the Romans and Aiden and Gabe and Dylan. There's ten players in each of the teams plus the five of us, and the West twins decided to team up with me because if Raleigh comes back with blood on the bat she temporarily borrowed covered in blood, then I don't know what I'd do. Justin's gonna hold her back but Gabe might just laugh at her.
I could hear, Oliver thinking out loud to himself, ".... But I've gotta get my head in the game, gotta get my head in the game. Gotta stop watching High School Musical..." and Aaron "Bee do-bee do-bee do!"
"You watch too much f*****g Minions," Justin said to him.
"Play the game like someone just took a cupcake from you," Maybell Valentine called out from the squad at her boyfriend. Rolling my eyes at her, Dylan passed me the ball and I caught it, throwing it and making a shot. The students on the bleachers and our teams cheered. Mrs. Maybell smiled and gave me two thumbs up.
The door to the gym opened and everyone stopped what they were doing and Raleigh stood in the doorway and this time without the bat... Without the bat? Oh s**t.
"Oh my god," Gabe mutters under his breath. I looked at him and Beverly and Justin both ran up ahead of the team, stopping long before Raleigh.
"You're done running errands?" Gabe asks.
"Uh-huh," Raleigh answers in nonchalance.
"...What happened to the bat?" Mrs. Maybell asks almost slowly.
"I don't think you're gonna want that back, anymore?" Raleigh's light brown eyes flicker over to Justin Momentarily. My turquoise eyes flicker over to him and Eve. Justin starts to take slow steps towards Raleigh. "I'm not gonna kill anybody just yet." Raleigh looked clean as the minute she left but the only thing out of place was the bat in which she didn't have anymore. Staring at my dear beloved little sister, Beverly looked like she was in deep thought. No one made a move to Raleigh but Justin.

Finally, back to practice, I sat out on the bleachers with the rest of the class. Aaron is pretty good at basketball, and so is Beverly and Justin. Basketball team captain from the Romans, Kevin Eve held a ice pack on his head which made me curious. He was playing crazy good out there one minute, now he was holding a frozen ice pack on his face. Kevin has blonde curls and grey eyes.
"I was wondering why the basketball was getting bigger, then it hit me," Kevin said.
"It hit you as in realization? or hit you, hit you?" I asked him.
"Both," he said.
"Then you should be off the team." Raleigh spoke, snuggled up with Justin on the bleacher seat behind me. Justin scoffed at Raleigh's response which I felt annoyed about.
"It wasn't that bad," Kevin said, "last time I was trying, but struggling to see how lightning works... then it struck me."
"Oh, that was the smell of grilled Kevin, I thought that was the smell of grilled burgers?" Gabe called out from across the gymnasium floor. Raleigh laughed at Gabe's humor and the bell rang, signaling dismissal. The class jumped up and instantly ran in and out of the locker rooms and out of the gym room.
"At least you know what yourself smells like if you ever die or get grilled in the sun's rays," Logan said, being pulled from the bleachers by Logan, Gabe and the twins. Raleigh was already eyeballing the s**t out of her phone. She wanted to call Michael herself and go and swear him out. I've meet Mikey Posley a few times but that was only when I went to help Justin from Raleigh killing the poor guy.
