The downside of being lucky

The news: Amanda's POV

Two days ago I received the news that I passed my grades last year and I qualified to go to University but my principal asked to meet me and my Aunt Cecilia and talk about the scholarship to London which I appied for

Me: Come on Cece let's go the principal is not very patient and you know that

Cecilia: Yeah I know baby, I'm just a bit nervous for you

Me: Let's pray, we still have a long way to go

We prayed and started our two hours journey to the school premises, we had no money to pay for a taxi so we had no choice but to walk in the dusty roads of the township. We finally arrived and we had to wait a bit because the principal had a meeting and we had to seat in the waiting room

Me: Oh my god I can't wait to leave this place the kids here are so mean it's really disturbing

Cecilia: So you want to leave me so soon (Making a sad face)

Me: Sorry aunt but you know I've been through the most with kids from this school and people from our neighborhood

Cecilia: I know baby let's hope that you got the scholarship I want all the best for you

Before I got the chance to reply to Aunt Cecilia the principal's assistant come in and and told us the principal was ready to see us.

We got to the principal's office and sat opposite on the chairs that were provided

Mr Smith:So Miss Johnson and Miss Ngcobo I won't wast your time beating around the bush, I called the both of you regarding the scholarship Amanda applied for

Me: Was I accepted or denied?

Mr Smith has a vey serious look on his and I couldn't see any emotions so I was very confused and very nervous

Mr Smith: I am very happy to say that we as the school staff are very excited to have one of our learners accepted in the very famous University of Oxford

Me & Cecilia: OMG(Screaming)

Mr Smith: (Chuckles)Congratulation

Me: Thank you very much

Cecilia: So when does she leave?

Mr Smith looks like she was about to deliver very sour news

Mr Smith: Uhm ...well....She is leaving later today

Cecilia: Oh....really?

Mr Smith: Yes I'm very sorry, I know it's a short notice

There is very disturbing silence

Me: Thank you for informing us. So what about transportation to the airport and my documents

Mr Smith: Everything has been taken of and the car to the airport will arrive 5 hours from now

Cecilia: Thanks a lot we appreciate your help

We said our goodbyes to the principal and made our way out of the office. On our way out we meet the school's security guard know as Eddie but no one knew what his surname.

Cecilia: (Starts fixing her self and fixing her hair)

Me: What's wrong with you?(Laughing)

Cecilia: Stop laughing you future uncle is making his way towards us

Me: Ohh I see you like Eddie

Cecilia: Ofcourse I do

Eddie:Hello beautiful people

Cecilia: Hello Handsome sir (blushing)

Me:Hi Mr Eddie

Eddie is one of the very few people who never treated my differently, we always talked and he was always looking out for me and taking care of me, sometimes we would even eat and share lunch together

Eddie: For the hundredth time stop calling me Mr Eddie you make it sound like I'm old(laughing)

Me:Right I always forget. We have to go now we still have a long walk to take

Eddie:Ohh I was on my way out I can drop you off

Cecilia: Thank you but we don't want to trouble you

It is very weird to see my Aunt Cece falling hard for someone, I have never seen her have intrest in anyone but I like seeing her blush

Eddie: Can I please get you guys home

Me: I'll go with your car Eddie I'm not walking for two hours again

Cecilia: Fine let's go

I got in the back seat and Cece got in the passenger's seat, the whole ride nobody said a single word but it was very comfortable silence, Eddie kept stealing glances at Cecilia and I noticed that maybe Eddie also has some feelings for Aunt Cece

We arrive home and started packing for my trip and I am literally taking everything and I can also see that my Cece is not really happy that I am leaving

Me: You know I'm not leaving forever right

She looks up with very teary eyes

Cecilia: I know baby but you are still my baby I didn't expect you to leave me so soon and please don't say I am not happy for your achievements but I am really going to be lonely without you

Me: I know you are happy for me and I will never doubt that you are basically all I have and I'm all you have. But after I finish my major in journalism I will come back and take care you like you took care of me aunt Cece

Cecilia: I love you baby and with my whole heart and I know my sister is looking upon us and she is also very proud right now

Me: I love you too and I hope mommy was here

I got up and huged my Cece very tight after the hug she takes my face in her hands and kisses my forehead and I did the same. After we finished packing we had our last dinner together and helped her clean up the table after a few minutes we heard a knock and we both knew it was the driver who was taking me to the airport .I open the door and it is the driver

Me: Hi

Driver: Hi I am here to fetch Amanda Johnson

Me: Yes that's me can you please wait in the car while I say my goodbyes I promise I'll be fast

Driver: No problem but don't take your time you have a flight to catch

Me: Okay

I fetch my bags and found my aunty at the door with eyes full of tears, I dropped my bags and rushed to her withe mu outstretched arms and we share a very heartfelt hug full of tears because I also started crying I mean I am leaving the only person who loves and cares for me after a few minutes we broke the hug and stared at each other

Cecilia: I love you and please behave yourself baby

Me: I promise I will be the good girl I always am

Cecilia: Okay now go(Laughing and wiping my tears)

Me: Bye I love you Cece

I sat in the back seat and me and the driver(Daniel) had our small talks till we got to the airport and the driver accompanied me till we reached the boarding gate

Daniel: Goodbye Amanda I see you are a very bright, kind and smart kid don't disappoint us and make us proud okay?

Me: Don't worry I won't disappoint anyone and I wanna see you when I come back from London, I feel like I have made a new friend Danny

Daniel: A new friend indeed. So give me a hug and go start you life kid

I gave Danny a friendly hug and made my way to the plane's entrance, found my seat and immediately fell asleep.
