Episode 10

"What happened to our parents?" Gabby asked. "They might find a way to get to our houses, and our parents are there. We can't risk getting them into this mess," I replied. "So what do we do?" Gabby asked. "Gabby, I want you to call your parents right now and tell them to pack a few things and come to our house. It's urgent. I'll explain when we get there." I watched as Gabby immediately picked up her phone and called her parents. I also called mine, telling them not to open the door for anyone except Gabby's parents and us. She kept asking what was wrong, but I couldn't tell her. I felt really bad for not letting her know what was going on in my life right now, but it was for the best. I couldn't risk her and Sam's safety. They were all I had right now. When the alley became too calm, I decided we should make our move right now before the men got the idea to go after our parents. We boarded a taxi to take us to my house. Everyone was waiting for us anxiously. Gabby's parents were worried, and so were mine. They deserved to know the truth, but not now. "Claire, what's going on?" my mom asked. "I'll explain later, Mom, but right now you all are in danger and we need you to get out of the country until it's all sorted." Gabby was also trying to convince her mom and dad about the same thing. "But how do we leave the country all of a sudden without buying a ticket?" Gabby's mom asked. "Yes, how?" my mom added. "Calm down, Mom. I already sorted that. I called Dad's friend, Mr. Rogers, and told him it was urgent. He said you guys should meet at the city airport and he'll process everything and give you all a smooth pass." "But how do we leave you guys behind?" Gabby's mom asked. "Don't worry, Mom. We'll be fine, and I promise I'll take care of Gabby." I gave my mom a tight hug, along with my little brother. Gabby's parents didn't want to let go. She was their only daughter and child. "Mom, I promise that when everything is settled, I'll come get you guys myself," I said. "Wait a minute. I want to get something," my mom said. She dashed to her room and came back with a gun. "What the f**k, Mum, you have a gun?" I screamed in surprise. "Of course. With the kind of work your father did, I definitely have a gun. And it also comes in handy now that you've gotten yourself into some kind of mess." "Badass definitely runs in your family," Gabby said, and we all laughed. "You can check your dad's drawer for one if you ever need it," my mom said with a wink. She gave me a hug. "I trust you so much, love. Don't die doing this, or I'll never forgive you. You have to survive," she whispered and gave me a peck. We watched them get into the family car and drive away. "But how did my mom know about my dad's work? I thought I was the only one. Is there something I don't know?" A lot of questions popped into my head until Gabby broke the silence. "Now, I think it's time we make a plan on how to go back for Sam."
