"Let’s go and buy some ice cream," Gabby said, dragging me to an ice cream spot.
"I want vanilla," I said to the woman.
"Give me chocolate with a bit of vanilla," Gabby said.
We walked down the road calmly until Gabby broke the silence.
"Let’s go sit down over there," she said, pointing at a bench in the park.
"Look at me, Claire," she said after we sat down.
I looked at her, thinking she wanted to say something serious. But before I realized it, she rubbed her ice cream on the tip of my nose while laughing at me.
I took mine and rubbed it on her face too. But I ran out as soon as I did that, and she ran after me.
We had a lot of fun.
We got tired and lay down on the grass.
"Claire, do you know what I really missed? Seeing you this happy. It’s been long. You laughed and played around like this," Gabby said.
And I knew she was right. I’ve been lost in my mission to find my dad's murderer that I forgot what being happy really felt like.
"And that is why I have the best friend in the world to always remind me what happiness and fun feels like whenever I’m lost," I said to her and stood up.
I held out my hand to help her up.
We were about leaving the park when someone tapped me from behind.
I turned around to see who it was, and the first thing that caught me was his hand. He had long black hair, not too long, not too short — just perfect. And he had great eyes that looked just like Gabby's. His lips were just the perfect ones you would want tangled in yours.
Wait, what was I even thinking?
"Um, excuse me," he called, bringing me back to reality.
"Hey," I answered with a smile.
"I think your wound is open. It’s bleeding," he said calmly. "Let me help you clean it up and bandage it up for you," he added.
"No, don’t bother. I can manage. I don’t want to trouble you," I said.
"Claire, you aren’t even in any position to refuse. Please, help her with the wound," Gabby said.
"I’m not troubling myself,I offered to help you with it," he said.
"Thanks a lot," I replied.
"No problem. Let's go to that side of the park. It’s less crowded," he said, pointing out to a part of the park, and we followed obediently.
"Well, it’s done," he tied up the bandage and stood up.
"Be careful so it won’t get infected," he added.
"Thanks" I muttered
" Thank you so much," Gabby said.
"I’m Xander. What about you?" He looked at me for an answer.
"Claire," I replied. "And she’s Gabby, my best friend."
"Yeah, I’ve seen you guys a couple of times in school.
"Wait, you... you school at Rathford College?" I asked.
"Yeah," he replied.
"Well, I’ve never seen you," I said.
"Yeah, I get that a lot,I just prefer my own space" he said.
I finally found someone with the same personality as me at least a bit of it" I said to myself
Suddenly it started raining, and we waved him goodbye and ran out.
