Deep within Duchannes territory — in a chamber carved from black stone that seemed to breathe with shadow — Alexa and Ariella were led forward by towering shadow warriors.
Their forms shifted like smoke, silent and watchful.
Alexa pulled slightly against their grip. “Why did you bring us here?”
Ariella added sharply, “What are you planning now?”
Ahead of them, Isolde Duchannes walked slowly, her dark robes trailing like living night.
She stopped before a massive wall.
Without turning, she said calmly, “You will see.”
She raised her hand.
Black energy flowed from her fingers — the wall trembled, shifting like liquid — revealing a hidden chamber.
Inside…
Suspended within a powerful magical containment field…
Hovered a blazing sphere — glowing orange like a miniature sun — its surface flickering with solar flares and swirling energy.
The air hummed intensely.
Alexa stared. “…What is that?”
Isolde smiled faintly. “The ITE.”
Ariella frowned. “What does it do?”
Isolde stepped closer, eyes gleaming. “It is pure primordial energy — the essence of creation and destruction.”
She turned to them. “With it, I will become unstoppable… reshape this realm… and erase Arcadia from existence.”
Ariella scoffed. “You’ve got to be kidding me.”
Alexa crossed her arms. “Then take it. Why do you need us?”
A low thunderous voice echoed from within the glowing sphere.
“You cannot…”
The sisters froze.
The ITE spoke — its voice deep and ancient.
“One Duchannes alone… is insufficient. Only united blood… can release me.”
Isolde nodded slightly. “You see.”
Alexa shook her head. “I’m not doing this.”
Suddenly —
A distant crash echoed through the fortress.
Isolde smiled slowly. “Ah… guests.”
Alexa’s heart leapt. “Arcadia…”
Isolde’s eyes gleamed. “Yes. Your rescuers.”
She raised her hand — shadows surged outward.
A massive dark barrier sealed the chamber.
“Portals will not function,” she said calmly. “No one enters… no one leaves.”
Far below — sounds of battle echoed.
Shadow creatures swarmed the Arcadia rescue team.
Steel clashed. Magic flared.
Isolde said softly, “They will fight until exhausted… then I will destroy them.”
Alexa shouted, “Stop this!”
Isolde turned coldly. “Release the ITE… or watch them fall.”
Ariella whispered urgently, “Alexa… we have to.”
Alexa shook her head. “She’ll destroy Arcadia.”
Ariella gripped her hand. “We won’t let her. We’ll stop her after.”
Alexa hesitated — torn.
A scream echoed faintly below.
She clenched her fists.
“…Fine.”
Ariella nodded. “We agree.”
Isolde smiled — satisfied.
“Cease,” she commanded.
The shadow creatures halted.
The barrier weakened.
—
The three Duchannes stood before the containment field.
Energy pulsed violently.
“Join your power,” Isolde instructed.
Alexa and Ariella exchanged a glance — then raised their hands.
Fire flickered around Alexa.
Frost shimmered around Ariella.
Shadow swirled around Isolde.
Their powers merged — striking the field.
Cracks began forming.
The chamber trembled.
“Again,” Isolde said.
Energy surged — the field splintering further.
—
Suddenly —
The doors burst open.
Arcadia’s rescuers rushed in — Tedros at the front, sword blazing.
“Stop!” Sarah shouted.
Valerina stepped forward. “I’ve got this.”
Lightning gathered in her hands.
Sarah redirected the current with a gust — guiding it carefully.
The bolt streaked across the room —
Passing Ariella — startling her — she stumbled backward.
Tedros caught her. “Easy.”
The lightning struck Isolde — throwing her back.
She hit the ground with a snarl.
But —
Too late.
The containment field shattered.
The ITE exploded outward in blazing orange light.
A wave of solar energy surged across the chamber.
“Look out!” Kai shouted.
The flares converged — drawn irresistibly —
Toward Alexa.
“No!” Ariella cried.
The energy slammed into Alexa — lifting her into the air — then hurling her down with a thunderous impact.
She hit the ground hard.
The chamber fell silent.
Streams of molten light flowed into her — entering through her skin — pulsing through her veins — blazing through every part of her being.
Her dragon mark burned bright.
Students watched in shock.
Sarah whispered, “Alexa…”
The energy continued pouring into her — unstoppable.
Then —
Suddenly —
It stopped.
The glow faded.
Alexa lay motionless.
Still.
Silent.
As if lifeless.
Ariella fell to her knees beside her. “Alexa…?”
No response.
Tedros whispered, shaken, “What just happened…”
Isolde slowly rose — eyes wide with astonishment.
“…Impossible.”
The room held its breath.
Because something had just changed.
Forever.
