Chapter 26

“He is soooo brooding.” Emily and I are tipsy, although it takes me a lot to get drunk, being half wolf and all. But I can feel the warmth in my chest, so I know Emily is pretty buzzed. She is all smiles, full of boisterous conversation and giggles, walking mostly upright and in a straight line. Mostly. It is definitely the distraction I needed. Right now we are practically sprinting down stairs, darting around and through the creepy old men in attendance. Feels like we are Jack and Rose running on the Titanic, we aren’t running from anything but just living in the moment. For once in my life I am definitely not the oldest person here, in fact beside Emily, I’m probably one of the youngest. Odd party. "What is his deal?" She asks. “It’s so weird because up until like yesterday, he was all flirtatious smiles and innuendoes. Now he is all steely cold eyes and death glares.” We slow down as we reach the level that I assume has our destination. “Eh, I’ll take death glares if he can fuc-” Emily turns the corner and lets out an ompf sound as she collides into someone trying to exit the same way she was barreling into. “Oh hello there.” She coos. At the same time, I hear “Excuse me.” a voice I know, a voice my body instantly recognizes as mine. Mate. “Troy” I said it in a breathy exclamation without even seeing him yet my body is burning. I turn the corner and gasp. F*ck. Summer time cocktail male attire is my jam. I never knew but I am pretty sure it's my kryptonite. He has dark charcoal slacks on, with perfectly pressed lines, perfect fit around his thighs, black belt, black shirt, with the sleeves rolled up, a few buttons undone, with his wavy curls and tan complexion, he is a Greek god. His hands, Jesus Christ, his wrist. Am I drooling? “Ashleigh.” His voice is like honeyed smoke, it's sweet but dark and smooth. When he says my name, I can feel the wetness pool in response. He is staring at me, like nothing exists but me. I see his eyes tracing my neck. Where his bite should be. Troy has his mark displayed where as mine, I had spent a solid ten minutes covering with stage makeup then another ten blending it out to look natural. “Holy sh*t!” Emily says. Looking between us. “You know each other?” “I need to speak with you.” Troy ignores Emily and I nod my head. He moves to be right in front of me. “Yeah, yeah. Yes.” I shake my head, “This is Troy. Troy, this is Emily. “ I look over Troy’s shoulder at Emily and give her a sort of grimace hoping she picks up that I need a minute alone. “Nice to meet you Troy, I gotta pee, I’ll be back in say five minutes.” She looks between us a few obvious times and then heads further inside the cabin of the floor we are on. “Are you okay?” His voice is gentle, he is looking me over head to toe and his focus is searing into my skin. I’m so hot, so d*mn needy for his hands on me. “Yeah." I squeak out, a ball of heat and pleasure in my chest pulsing, radiating, shooting straight through my core; I tighten my vaginal walls because its such a weird almost unbearable sensation. Like something brushed against my g spot. Can he tell how much I am squirming under his attention? He clears his throat, “I made a lot of assumptions about your life on the plane, which was unfair of me. I wanted to have a chance to talk to you but you up and ran.” I don’t want to run right now though, right now, I want him to bend me over and claim me again. F*ck. Get it together Ashleigh, you ran because he is a psycho. He hit you! “I am fine having a conversation with you about your choices, my choices, your life, my life. All of it, whatever, but it seems like we can’t do that. You snap on me for what feels like no reason so I felt like I didn’t have a choice but to distance us.” “When can we have that conversation?” He is looking at me with such sincerity and I can’t stop imagining those eyes looking up at me, buried between my thighs, with those fingers slick from being inside me. Maybe I should throw myself overboard to cool down. “Why don’t you call or text me. It’s easier to walk away, calm down-” “Well your phone is compromised.” He snaps, interrupting me. I scrunch my nose at that and furrow my brow like he is crazy. “You wonder how did Kingston knew the minute you were home, either he has surveillance at your home or is tracking your phone. But based on the conversations I have had with him. I am sure all your devices and probably your car and home are compromised.” “Your ‘compromised’ is my concern for her welfare.” I startle as Kingston comes up behind me so fast. I can feel his heat on my back as he gets right in my space. I turn around and there are two other guys with him. I can cut the immediate tension with a knife. This is not good, not good at all. “Hey, can you give me a minute?” I plead with Kingston giving him my best puppy dog eyes and he snarls at me. “No, I am not leaving you with him. He is dangerous to you.” Kingston doesn't even look at me, he is just staring across at Troy behind me. “And she is safe with you?” Troy is using some sort of Alpha thing with his voice. The two men behind Kingston wince. I whimper and have the desire to submit. I show him my neck as I flinch and direct my eyes to the floor. His reaction is to rub my upper arm and comfort me but the second his hand touches my arm, Kingston pulls me back and spins me away from Troy. I nearly roll my ankle in these heels and Troy growls in response. “AWKWARD” Emily comes up behind Troy. “Let's all go get some shots.” As she squeezes past Troy, completely oblivious of what she walked in on. Then pointing at Kingston she directs him to turn around, she continues to wave and shoo them back up the stairs. She has no idea that they are wolves and two very possessive alphas. She just giggles and then makes a claw with her hand and makes some sort of meow growl sound as she leans into me and giggles. She pulls me into her, seeming to read the situation though and whispers “Liam just texted me, he got out of work early, he just got here. So, if you need to get out of here, I have someone to make sure I don’t do anything stupid and if you need a ride we can take you.” “Yeah I should probably head out.” When I turn back to look at Troy though, he is gone. “I feel like I am missing a story. Good thing I have you roped into sushi tomorrow. Story time and sake.” She lets out a squeal as she sees Liam and runs to wrap her arms around his neck. “Thank you for inviting me, I am gonna head out. I will see you tomorrow. ” I kiss her on her cheek. "Text me in the morning!" She squeal as Liam picks her up and spins her. I walk myself off the boat. I have no idea if Kingston is following me and honestly I don’t care. All I need is a cold shower.
