CHAPTER TWENTY-TWO
Rowena startled awake and fell off my living room couch when we entered the house.
“It's a relief to see you here,” I said. “I'm glad you kept your word.”
She rubbed her eyes.
“I left you a plate of food on the kitchen table,” I said. “Did you see it?”
“I could definitely eat,” she said. “but I guess we’ve got work to do first, huh?”
Outside, the sun sank behind my neighbor’s house, and twilight spun into the living room, coloring us all in a golden glow.
Rowena wiped her face as Hazel trotted into the room and sniffed my leg. I rubbed her neck and patted her.
Bo stared outside pensively.
“Any word from the demon yet?” he asked.
“We’re going to call him again,” I said. “I hope for his sake he has some information.”
