CHAPTER TWENTY-FIVE There's an old 90s movie that I catch on late-night television every once in a while in which two white guys decide to check out an abandoned factory in East St. Louis in search of gold, and all hell breaks loose when they get stuck inside. It doesn't end well for them. There’s a black g**g inside that tries to kill them because they witness a murder, the place ends up on fire, and one of the heroes dies. Nobody wins. Trespass, I think it was called. I never liked that movie, but, boy, did it feel like I was living it now.
