CHAPTER 3 - HOLD HER HAND - TYRIAN'S POV

2063 Words
I watched Corvin moving his glowing hands over our mate, while she stayed still, and I found myself moving closer, but Tris grabbed my arms and shook his head. ''Give him room to work.'' I pulled my arm back, and crossed them across my chest, ''Can you believe she's our mate?'' ''It's crazy.'' ''We should tell dad.'' I suggested as I watched my mate's gorgeous face and examined her features. She had a strange tattoo near her ear that looked like it was an ancient witch symbol. ''Link him.'' ''Alpha Dwayne,'' I said quickly. My brother and I were different, most twins were. We could just automatically go into each others minds, but with anyone else, we had to call their name and connect the usual way. ''Yes?'' He answered, sounding annoyed. We'd clearly interrupted something important, but I knew he'd be thrilled to hear our news. ''Alpha, we found your daughter.'' Tristan told him, and the King fell silent. ''Dad?'' ''I'm here,'' He said quickly, ''Are you sure?'' ''Yes, she has the wolf mark.'' ''So what, is she an Alpha?'' He asked us. ''We can't sense her power, but I think she's blocking it,'' Tristan answered as he glanced at our girl. ''She looks just like the late Queen,'' I added, ''There's no denying it. She's your daughter, plus they have the same name, and guess what else. She's our mate.'' ''She's your what?'' He said slowly, sounding annoyed. ''Isn't it great,'' I said quickly, not sure why he was upset, though, as I didn't have a daughter, I didn't quite understand a father's feelings, especially the feelings of a father who'd only just gotten his daughter back, ''We were always meant to be part of the family, it was destiny that you chose to adopt us.'' ''Yes, destiny,'' He said, his tone quiet. ''Bring my daughter home. If she really is who she says she is, then I will finally have her back where she belongs.'' ''We'll leave tomorrow,'' Tristan answered, ''She's resting. She... Was a prisoner in the prison. She apparently killed a werewolf, Alpha who was taking children to start up the fighting games again.'' ''Is that so.'' ''I think it's wonderful,'' I told him, ''Even not remembering that she's royal. She was still acting like a Queen and protecting her people.'' ''Yes, that's... wonderful indeed. Bring her to me.'' ''We'll see you in a few weeks.'' Tristan said, and dad cut the link. ''I don't think he likes us being her mate.'' I told my brother, but before he could answer, Freya growled and grabbed Corvins throat. ''WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!'' Tristan rushed over and gently touched her arm, ''Let him go.'' ''He tried to put his hand between my legs!'' ''We wanted him to check if you'd been r.aped.'' I said quickly and touched her face, but she shoved all three of us back. There was no doubt she was an Alpha. ''I wasn't, not here anyway.'' She told us and sat up, revealing the terrible scars on her back. ''What does that mean?'' Tristan asked her. She didn't answer him, and changed the subject, ''I want to leave.'' ''He needs to heal your back,'' I told her. ''I'll heal on my own. I've been suppressing my healing power, so I wouldn't be discovered. I'll heal soon.'' She told us. ''Okay.'' Tristan said as he pulled off his jacket and pulled it over her, ''We'll take you away from here.'' He helped her down, and we walked her out of the room, after thanking Corvin. I couldn't keep my eyes off her. I'd never seen anyone move with such fluid grace. Her hair fell in a cascade down her back, though it was in need of a good wash. When she turned and caught my gaze, my breath caught in my throat. It was as if the world had narrowed to a single point, her face, the curve of her cheek, the faint dusting of freckles across her nose. She was the most exquisite woman I'd ever seen, and I was suddenly aware of how much I wanted to f*ck her. My mind was a riot of questions: How did she taste? What jokes made her laugh? What scars lay hidden beneath that smooth skin? Where had she been all this time? I opened my mouth, but the words evaporated. I stared at her hand, delicate and warm. I wanted to reach out, to slip my fingers around hers and feel that connection. Across the filthy floor, Tristan's hand twitched. He clenched it into a fist and then relaxed, slipping his palm into his coat pocket. I caught the movement like a whisper. He clearly wanted to hold her hand too. ''Coward,'' I teased, through the link. He turned, his eyes flashing with a mixture of irritation and amusement. We led her down the side corridor and finally out of the prison. She cringed at the light, and I quickly shielded her eyes until she could fully open them. ''Thank you.'' ''You don't have to thank me.'' I smiled and looked at her mouth. Goddess, I want to kiss her, but then she frowned and noticed one of the guards. Before we could even say anything, she lunged and punched him so hard, his jaw snapped, as he fell to the ground. ''I told you I'd return the hit.'' She said and kicked him in the crutch, making him cry out in pain. ''Darling, what did he do to you?'' Tristan asked quickly, as he grabbed the guard by the throat and slammed him against the wall. ''It's nothing. I've handled it.'' She said and turned away. As she walked off, Tristan, not knowing what happened between them, and not caring, punched him in the gut and shoved him to the ground. ''You're fired.'' I told him, and followed after our mate. We caught up with her, and I smiled to myself. ''Are you okay?'' I asked her, and moved closer. ''Yes, thank you,'' She said, but then she paused and Tristan nearly ran into her. ''Sorry,'' He laughed, and ran his fingers through his hair, ''Why did you stop.'' ''I don't know the way.'' She pointed out. ''Oh,'' I smiled, ''Follow me.'' We took her to the main building constructed for the leaders who ran the small town and prison, and led her to the Lycan wing, and up to the royal suite, an airy room of high ceilings, glass walls that seemed to swallow the horizon, and a bed that was covered in more cushions then I even owned. She walked slowly, fingers trailing over the polished surfaces, pausing at a small wooden desk, turning it over, feeling the grain. She lingered at the bathroom doorway, peering into the frosted glass around the shower, and my mind turned dirty pretty fast, when I imagined her showering in there. She turned, eyes bright, and asked the question that had been buzzing in my own skull for the last half‑hour. ''Will we all stay here together?'' The words hung in the air, heavy with expectation. Tristan's smile faltered for a heartbeat, then recovered with a practiced ease. ''Oh, well, we'll stay across the hall,'' He replied, as if the logistics of a hallway could solve a deeper yearning. My pulse raced, and before I could swallow my nervousness, I blurted out, ''Unless you want us to stay with you?'' She looked at me, a flicker of amusement dancing across her lips. ''I'd rather be alone for now,'' She said, the tone soft but firm, a polite brush that still managed to sting. ''This is all so... new. I need time to adjust.'' My heart thudded. It wasn't the rejection I feared, it was the certainty of it. I knew she was protecting herself, maybe protecting us. I wanted to argue, to tell her that I'd rather stay with her, even if I had to sleep on the sofa or the ground, but my damn brother spoke first. ''We understand,'' Tristan placed a hand on my shoulder, his grip warm and grounding. ''This is new to us too. We came here for information, we never expected to meet our mate. We can take things slowly.'' Slowly? I frowned. I didn't want to take it slow. I wanted to mark and mate her, right here, right now. I'd waited my entire life to lose my virginity and now my mate was right here before me, and I couldn't even muster the courage to hold her hand. When she looked at me, I forced a smile that didn't quite reach my eyes. ''Right,'' I said, the words feeling like a script. ''We'll follow your lead.'' ''The bathrooms stocked,'' My brother pointed out, ''I'm sure you want to freshen up.'' ''True. The prison didn't exactly have a spa facility.'' She joked, and I smiled again, this time for real. ''Will you tell us what you went through in there?'' My brother asked, as he reached out and touched her cheek, this time, not chickening out. She stepped back, and I saw tears fill her eyes, ''It's doesn't matter. It's nothing I'm not used to.'' ''You're used to torture?'' I asked, and moved closer to her again. ''I get that you want to know about my past,'' She said, as tears fell down her cheeks, and my heart ached for her, ''I'm curious about you two as well, but I think we should find out about each other naturally.'' ''We have time,'' I told her, ''I just... I do hope you'll give us a chance and accept us.'' ''You're both on trial,'' She smiled and we both laughed. ''I'll take it,'' Tristan told her, before taking a breath, ''We'll give you some privacy to bathe and change, and we'll have someone bring some food.'' ''I don't have anything to change into.'' She reminded us, and I was actually tempted to pull off my own shirt for her. ''You can wear one of our shirts for now,'' My brother said, and I smiled, our minds were often on the same wave length. ''And we'll get you some clothes tomorrow.'' ''If I'm really going to the capital. I want to go to my home and pack some things.'' ''Of course, whatever you need.'' I said, as she smiled. ''Let's go, and let her clean up,'' My brother told me, as he glanced at the door. ''I'll leave the clothes of the bed for you while you're in the bathroom.'' I didn't want to go, but he was already pulling me to the door. I turned to look at her, she was still crying. Why did we have to bring up her past. I didn't want to leave her. We just met. We should stay together. What if she runs? My brother continued to pull me from the room, and I saw all the guards we'd brought with us, already posted in the hall. ''Nothing happens to her.'' He ordered, and then bowed in unison. ''Nothing will happen if we go back in there to protect her,'' I pointed out, but Tristan continued to drag me into the room. Once the door closed, he walked over ot his suitcase and started picking out shirts. ''Why are you choosing your clothes? I think mine would be better.'' He laughed, and rolled his eyes, ''My idea, my clothes.'' He said smugly, and left the room again. I heard our mates door open and close again, before he returned. ''Did it look like she was going to run?'' I asked him, as he closed the door behind him. ''Of course not,'' He said as he kicked off his own shoes, ''I'm going to shower, and then we should really talk, so much has happened today.'' ''Yeah, I'll say, I didn't even get a chance to tell you what I learned in the interrogations.'' I responded as I kicked off my own shoes and sat down on the bed. ''Did you find out anything?'' ''Yes, but we'll talk in minute, I need a cold shower.'' I laughed, ''I understand. Trust me.'' He smirked at me, ''It's hard to believe isn't. We finally have her. And she's so beautiful.'' ''We clearly have good taste.'' I smiled and laid on my back, ''Our children are going to be stunning.'' ''Oh shut up,'' He laughed and walked into the bathroom.
