After homeroom, I guided the new kid through the halls, and up two floors before reaching our first class; Biology. I hated the class with a passion, and it seemed he didn’t particularly like it either, with the twisted grimace his face made upon entering the lab room. I chuckled at his strained face while leading him to the farthest lab table.
“The teacher lets us sit wherever, so go ahead and choose a spot.” Unsurprisingly, he decided to sit next to me, and I thanked the set up for being one that made it so we didn't have to look at eachother. The rest of our class headed to their seats noisily chatting before the teacher came in and started the lesson.
Before I knew it, we were heading to the cafeteria. This was the only period I shared with both Talon, and Si. “It’s lunch, do whatever you want.” With that I walked off to join up with the two, Crest stopped short. I could feel his eyes watching me again, probably debating on where to go. Not even a minute later his footsteps followed soon after, and Si happened to spot us before I could shake him. She came bounding to us with a huge smile gracing her peach tinted lips. Si was one of the most popular she-wolves in the pack, so I was a little surprised when the new kid didn’t get flustered or try to flirt with her the same way all the others did. Instead, he turned to me, and leaned in.
“Who's the hyperactive chick, and why is she looking at me like she found her new favorite toy?” The shudder that followed as Si grabbed his wrist to lead him through the lunch line made me shake my head in both amusement and confusion. Talon ruffled my hair just before we followed our crazy friend and the new kid through the hell they called a school lunch rush.
After obtaining the grub this school called food; we sat at our usual table beside the big, full wall windows, Talon and Si sitting together across from Crest and I. The look on Sirene’s face told me I’d be hearing about this new kid later. I rolled my eyes a little, grateful for the weekend so I wouldn’t have to worry about Si coming up with any new plans to get me ‘friends’ as she calls them.
“Hey, I’m Talon and this beautiful but crazy girl beside me is Siriene. We’re both a year older than Kal.” Tal introduces them, holding his hand out for Crest to shake.
“Im Crest, 17, and the new kid,” His smile is wide and happy. His Blue eyes briefly glanced towards me before returning his attention to Talon.
“Nice, that means you’re the same age as Kal. Oh, I’m an Alpha.” Talon says the last part with a glance towards Si, obviously having already been told to try and gather information about him for her.
“Omega!” Si chirps happily before digging into her tuna sandwich, wide eyes watching Crest carefully. Narrowing slightly at his tensed up form, but deciding to wait until he’s ready to speak again. It took a good couple of minutes before he gave an answer, quietly speaking, as if the mere mention of it would condemn him straight to the afterlife in hell.
“Alpha.”
It was no surprise when the table went stock still for a couple seconds before Talon laughed, smiling wide and cheerful. Clapping the other Alpha on the back a few times. “That’s great! Do you have a pack already?” The question was innocent enough, but it seemed to make the new kid uncomfortable as he slightly crouched in on himself, like he was trying to hide.
“Guys enough interrogating, we only have a few more minutes before lunch ends.” Clearing my throat lightly after speaking, we all ate in an awkward silence for the rest of the period. For once I was thankful for the excuse of needing to eat during lunch, even with it being a school lunch.
After separating from Tal and Si, we made our way to the training grounds on the opposite end of the school. Although our school does find the general studies to be important, it wasn’t the schools top category. The general course classes only filled a third of the campus, while the other two thirds were a combination of inside and outside training facilities. Facing the west, behind the school, lay a thick forest where we trained in both human and wolf form. Since it was the beginning of the school term, training classes began outside in the south end. The inside training building took up most of the eastern portion. The campus grounds were insanely huge, taking about thirty minutes to get from the edge of the north to the edge of the southern border.
“So, you don’t happen to have Mr.Kycles as your training mentor, do you?” Crest asks with an uneasy chuckle, scratching the back of his neck. His question stopped me in the middle of the large field that separated the two ends of school, otherwise known as the courtyard. The Alpha stopping a few steps ahead, he gave me a curious look as he waited for my reply.
“You mean to tell me you're in the highest training class. Meant only for those who are a shoe in to be one of the council members of the pack when they get older? You, who has literally just moved here, what…Yesterday?!” I hadn’t meant to raise my voice, yet I couldn’t seem to contain the shock wave he had thrown my way.
“Is that bad?” Crest asked sheepishly, eyes darting down before looking back up with worry laced through them. Scarlet hues filled with what looked like a bit of fear, but it was gone almost as soon as it appeared. For a moment I forgot to answer, distracted by the way he seemed to be anything but an Alpha, yet the presence of his wolf was strong in his eyes. Even when they looked scared, they held a certain determination in them.
When he cleared his throat I snapped out of my thoughts, taking in his demeanor which seemed to scream discomfort. “Sorry, no it’s not bad. It’s just surprising, I didn’t expect it with how much you seem to not wanna be in the spotlight here.”
He chuckled again, giving me a small grin, and I couldn’t help but feel that those were both fake. Like he was hiding himself away, waiting for the chance to come out. I really needed to get that picture from Si, and find out what she sees from him. It was really starting to annoy me the way he kept popping out the surprises today.
