Chapter 10 Over a week passed before I felt well enough to return with Neeve to the Darkwood. The only good thing about spending so much time abed was that I’d been able to read half of the Complete History of Raine that Miss Groves had given me. I still felt woefully uninformed about the Darkwood, however. The book seemed to dance around the subject of the forest, alluding to strange alliances and mysterious happenings in the vaguest of terms. It was quite annoying. The one thing I did discover was that the flower called nirwen actually grew deep in the wood. Which made sense, I supposed, since it was reputed to have potent properties. And apparently it bloomed infrequently, so it was no wonder the country didn’t export a great deal of it. Either way, I wouldn’t want to be the one sent
