Chapter 20 The next day, Castle Raine was quiet. Miss Groves looked tired, and assigned us to doing sums, then reading history chapters for the entire morning. “No need to give me that frown, Rose,” she said. “It will settle your mind.” More like put me to sleep, I thought, despite my aching hand. It seemed I’d pulled a muscle in my left palm while playing, and the dull pain made me feel muzzy and irritable. By the end of the morning, however, I did feel more clearheaded.
